Just the way you look tonight

Life seems to be such a small, sudden thing. If you look at it as an overall picture, our existence is only small part in the world's history. Even if we live to 100, thats out of the estimated 4.5 billion years that the world has been around. It makes you feel small huh? How can it be than, that we consider ourselves so important? How can it be that we are unnecessarily selfish? I think that maybe this selfishness comes from feeling small. That subconsciously each person knows that they are not important and because of this, we constantly strive to make a name for ourselves and become important. That being remembered for something is truly what we strive for in life. I might be completely wrong on this but it is what i have seen from many people lately. I have seen how selfish a person can be, all in the name of getting attention and being noticed/remembered. Obviously it is a larger aspect of some peoples lives than it is others but i think that deep down each one of us just wants to be remembered, to have had some sort of use in this world. I mean, who wants to live this life and once they are gone, fall into the "out of sight, out of mind" phrase. To not have someone who thinks about us and what we have done. This longing is completely justifiable, but only to a certain extent. Each person has the right to be selfish and in all honesty, every person is selfish in everything that they do, but it comes to a point where it is beyond selfish. Once the ego consumes an individual it comes to the point where they become what most people would consider "attention whores". Once a person has sunk to the unthinkable level of lying about horrible events, such as someone dying or contemplating suicide or being raped, only in the name of having people pity that individual and feed their attention and raise their "depleting" self esteem and thereby raising their ego, it comes to the point of being unforgivable. No person should ever so emotionally harm another as a way to get attention. A person like that has no right to love, no right to happiness, no right to life. Moments where this happens and that person goes on to find love, to find happiness, and to live a comfortable life while still using everyone around them, make me begin to question the idea of karma, the one thing i have but my trust in for so long. Moments like this make me wish that person felt small and would just accept it. Moments like this make me hate how selfish humans can truly be.
