i'm sure there's something wonderful inside
but angry, lost, and lonely too
and you're making me stand on the outside
that's why it hurts to be with you
you say no one returns your love
but you've never given any to return
you say you feel empty, so you keep giving up
and that has only fed the hurt
you take the phone off the hook
hide so deep within
giving no one a chance to love you
you don't know who you are
cause you've never tried
and when you don't want to look, you won't find truth
feeling loved has never been about worth
it's more about being surprised in a good way
it wouldn't be beautiful if it had to be earned
something about it would feel so fake
it's one thing you should have to work for
just let it come in and reside
it's even better to give more
then your heart won't feel so denied
you take the phone off the hook

and when you don't want to look, you find truth
oh your wall is so big
and i'm kind of frightened
it has sharp jagged edges and such
can you make a door?
and teach someone to open it?
