Terminate Damnation

If God were small enough to be understood, He would not be big enough to be worshiped. -- Evelyn Underhill

People naturally do not shout it out, least of all into the ears of us ministers; but let us not be deceived by their silence. Blood and tears, deepest despair and highest hope, a passionate longing to lay hold of... Him who overcomes the world because He is its Creator and Redeemer, its beginning and ending and Lord--a passionate longing to have the word spoken, the word which promises grace in judgment, life in death, and the beyond in the here and now, Gods word--this it is that animates our church-goers. -- Karl Barth (1886-1968)

I belong to the "Great-God Party", and will have nothing to do with the "Little-God Party." Christ does not want nibblers of the possible, but grabbers of the impossible. -- C. T. Studd

If we would put some slight stress on ourselves at the beginning, then afterwards we should be able to do all things with ease and joy. It is a hard thing to break through a habit, and a yet harder thing to go contrary to our own will. Yet, if thou overcome not slight and easy obstacles, how wilt thou overcome greater ones? Withstand thy will at the beginning, and unlearn an evil habit, lest it lead thee little by little into worse difficulties. Oh, if thou knewest what peace to thyself thy holy life should bring, ... and what joy to others, methinketh thou wouldst be more zealous for spiritual profit. -- Thomas a Kempis (1380-1471)

For the rest of my life I'm going to trust that God is always at work in all things, and give Him thanks long before my simplest prayers are answered. -- Nancy Parker Brummett

It is in the ordinary duties and labors of life that the Christian can and should develop his spiritual union with God. -- Thomas Merton

That crowd of Jews would have followed Christ at that moment because He was giving them what they wanted [bread], and they wished to use Him for their plans and dreams and purposes. That attitude to Christ still lingers in men's minds. We would like Christ's gifts without Christ's Cross; we would like to use Christ instead of allowing Him to use us. -- William Barclay (1907-1978)

There is always time enough in a day to do God's will. -- Roy Lessin

Ability of speech in time and season is an especial gift of God, and that eminently with respect unto the spiritual things of the Gospel; but a profluency of speech, venting itself on all occasions and on no occasions, making men open their mouths wide when indeed they should shut them and open their ears, and to pour out all that they know and ... what they do not know, making them angry if they are not heard and impatient if they are contradicted, is an unconquerable fortification against all true spiritual wisdom. -- John Owen (1616-1683)

The apostle asked the converts of Apollos one question: "Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" and got a plain answer. His modern successors are more inclined to ask either "Did you believe exactly what we teach?" or "Were the hands that were laid on you our hands?" and--if the answer is satisfactory--to assure the converts that they have received the Holy Spirit even if they don't know it. -- Lesslie Newbigin (1909-1998)

I can contribute nothing to my own salvation, except the sin from which I need to be redeemed. -- William Temple

Greetings.

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

These days... they are evil indeed. I am truly amazed at Gods restraint in His wrath against mankind's sins.
Why we are not all dead and burning in hell is beyond me sometimes.

The wickedness that is found in my very own heart is astonishing to me.

God is His sovereign grace and mercy sought me and bought me with His very own redeeming blood.
My hands only provided the sin from which I needed to be saved from. Jesus provided me with His righteousness that I may be sanctified and justified before the Father...

Romans 5:1-11

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

The section that says "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." humbles me. I bear no good thing in my heart. He does all that calls me to faith. My righteousness is as filthy rags before Him. I bring nothing but my sin and shame.

I can't work my way to Him. I can't do more good to outweigh the bad. I can't stand on what I have done or have not done in this life. I don't get a second (or third or fourth etc.) chance at life to "make things right".
I can't join a church, get baptized, take communion, say "hail marys", pay a penance or go to confessional, blow myself up, wear the right clothes etc etc etc. or all these things that people do in the name of religion to try and make themselves righteous before a holy and just God.

I can only go before Him in humility and confess my absolute corruption and depravity, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Glory be unto God that I have been set free. I am far from perfect. But His amazing grace has made me free.

John 8:31-32

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Free indeed.

Dearest brothers and sisters, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus.

Terminate Damnation

Maggots infest the minds of unbelievers
In the form of unholiness
Deception they feast upon while unaware
Of the death that will take place

Undead stalk the earth with anticipation
Of impending release from suffering
Their rejection of the creator of all
Will prevent this from ever happening

Heed the words that terminate damnation
Terminate damnation

Escape from torment is discovered
Through blood from veins ripped apart
By warriors under a governor's hand
Unaware while tearing satan's heart

One thing remains for mankind
To be spared from eternal darkness
Become mortified to ways unclean
And please the will of His Holiness

Transformations to immortality is at hand
Through the expiry of self will
The flesh will be consumed in time
Birthing restoration to the soul

Divine regurgitation of impurity
Separation of wheat from chaff
Chaff being Godlessness, becomes extinct
Through inevitable destiny of damnation

The ostentatiousness of satan
Has descended to the burial ground
Maggots accumulate in his tomb
Worms are a covering for his corpse

Damned, slain bodies lying motionless
With festering gaping wounds from the sword
Bury this disgusting ancient beast of old
Forever eternal without escape

Heed the words that terminate damnation
Terminate damnation

Escape from torment is discovered
Through blood from veins ripped apart
By warriors under a governor's hand
Unaware while tearing satan's heart

"It's not how much you give but what you keep for yourself."

What changed these very ordinary men (who were such cowards that they did not dare stand too near the cross in case they got involved) into heroes who would stop at nothing? A swindle? Hallucination? Spooky nonsense in a darkened room? Or Somebody quietly doing what He said He'd do--walk right through death? What do YOU think? -- J. B. Phillips (1906-1982)

Heaven is not here, it's There. If we were given all we wanted here, our hearts would settle for this world rather than the next. God is forever luring us up and away from this one, wooing us to Himself and His still invisible Kingdom, where we will certainly find what we so keenly long for. -- Elisabeth Elliot

Let every man recognize what he is, and be certain that we are all equally priests, that is, we have the same power in the word and in any sacrament whatever. -- Martin Luther (1483-1546)

Do you think the work God gives us to do is never easy? Jesus says His yoke is easy, His burden is light. People sometimes refuse to do Gods work just because it is easy. This is sometimes because they cannot believe that easy work is His work; but there may be a very bad pride in it... Some, again, accept it with half a heart and do it with half a hand. But however easy any work may be, it can not be well done without taking thought about it. And such people, instead of taking thought about their work, generally take thought about the morrow, in which no work can be done any more than in yesterday. -- George MacDonald (1824-1905)

What you do every day should contribute to giving your life meaning. If it doesn't, why are you doing it? -- Don Hutcheson

We come to Jesus Christ: and He does for us what He promised; and the thing works out. To our amazement, it works out. And then we settle down. We have had our own first-hand and irrefutable experience. But, instead of opening the windows to the glory of the sunshine so evidently there, instead of being incited to a hugeness of faith by what Christ has already done for us, we can't believe that there can be anything more, or that even He can work, for us, anything better. That first foretaste satisfies us. And so we camp for life out on the confines of the Kingdom, and never press on to inherit what is there and meant for us. -- A. J. Gossip (1873-1954)

If you do not specify and confront real issues, what you will do will surely obscure them. If you do not alarm anyone morally, you will yourself remain morally asleep. If you do not embody controversy, what you say will be an acceptance of the drift to the coming human hell. -- C. Wright Mills

Our life is full of brokenness - broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God's faithful presence in our lives. -- Henri Nouwen

Many promising reconciliations have broken down because, while both parties came prepared to forgive, neither party came prepared to be forgiven. -- Charles Williams

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save what Thou art:
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son,
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Riches I need not, nor mans empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heaven's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all!

-- Anonymous medieval Irish hymn

Greetings.

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

I was listening to a radio ministry yesterday. It was Thru the Bible with Dr. J. Vernon McGee, I don't listen to him very often. He was talking about Mark 12. And when he reached these following verses...

Mark 12:41-44

Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."

He said something that really struck me. It's something I have been saying (I think) for awhile now, I just had never articulated it like this. "It's not how much you give but what you keep for yourself."

In my last post, I talked about "living dead". Or a better way to say it is taken directly from scripture, to be a living sacrifice...

Romans 12:1

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

The most noticeable thing about those verses in Mark 12 is that the widow gave EVERYTHING she had, she left nothing for herself... nothing.

I'm not often that way myself. I need a "cushion" to rest myself in. A comfort zone, one that does not push outside of the boundaries that I have perimetered myself into.

It basically stems from a lack of trust in the One who holds my eternal salvation, the same One who holds all the universe in His holy hands. The Lord of Hosts whom nothing escapes His sovereignty and purpose.

And I don't trust Him with my day to day resources... (?)

The minuscule things in my life that are the mundane and common things that are necessary for my daily living. Things like paying bills, putting food on the table, getting through my work day without killing myself or others around me (I drive a truck.)

I have often looked at this verse in the 20th Psalm...

Psalm 20:7

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

I find myself over and over again trusting in my horses and chariots, the verses play out as such...

Psalm 20:8-9

They have bowed down and fallen;
But we have risen and stand upright.

Save, LORD!
May the King answer us when we call.

The writer of this psalm knew all to well of the results of trusting in horses and chariots and the difference it makes in trusting the Lord.

I would like to be that living sacrifice mentioned in Romans 12... I find myself at a loss cause I keep crawling off the alter and back onto the throne of my life. I forget far to quickly and far to often who it is that I belong to.

Romans 6:4-11

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

My old, dead man was crucified with Him. It all returns to Him. My trust fails me sometimes, thanks be unto Him that He never fails me. Never. I am no longer a slave to sin, I walk into it sometimes willingly, but it has no longer a dominion over me. I just need to trust Him more and more and lean into His grace and trust not in my own understanding. He gave me His everything... why shouldn't He have mine?

Grace and peace to you dearest brothers and sisters.

Living Dead

The knowledge of God is very far from the love of Him. -- Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

To holy people the very name of Jesus is a name to feed upon, a name to transport. His name can raise the dead and transfigure and beautify the living. -- John Henry Newman

The task to which we are called is not the sacrifice of any principle in which we firmly believe. It is rather to return to Christ not a figure of the imagination, but the Christ of the Scriptures and to listen to His voice in obedience, to discover afresh what is the Truth. All unpretentious Bible study, every effort to disseminate a true scriptural theology, and every earnest prayer is part of the task of promoting that unity which is truly Christian. We must not envisage Christian Unity as consisting of far-off and doubtful schemes, but as something very nigh which affects us all. If we are really to seek for Christian Unity, we must be prepared to pay the cost. For it must be based upon love, and love is always costly. It will never be attained until there is "far more humility, far more thought, far more self-sacrifice, and far more prayer, than there is at present." (Streeter) If we are right in the conclusion that such disunion as has been sinful in the history of the Church has been due to pride, self-assertion, and contempt for God's Word and commandment, then it follows that the way to the unity which God wills through humility, love of the brethren, and obedience to the Divine Revelation. When Christians pray to be shown where they have been wrong, proud, complaisant, or censorious, and to be put right; when they meet for common counsel and study of the Word, in the spirit of obedience and prepared to subject their individual opinions to the guidance of the Spirit; where the strong are willing to foster and strengthen the weak; and where all are seeking the common good rather than their own sectional interests: then the pathway to unity will become plain, and God will grant His blessing. -- G. T. Manley

Measure not men by Sundays, without regarding what they do all the week after. -- Thomas Fuller

The basis of our Lords appeal was himself. "Follow me," "come unto me," and "ye will not come unto me," indicate sufficiently that what he offered to men was himself. He seeks to win mens acceptance of the truth that had come in him. His words and deeds served to indicate what manner of man he was and what kind of work he had come to do; and all the time it is a person addressing persons, seeking to gain their recognition of and their self-commitment to himself. He sought to exercise no authority over men that was not personal, both in the way it was exercised and in the way in which it was recognized and accepted. -- John Huxtable (1912-1990)

We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking only to learn that it is God shaking them. -- Charles West

I believe in God like I believe in the sun rise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches. -- C. S. Lewis

Greetings.

I love this time of the year. I love halloween. Not for what it's history is, but I used to love to dress up and run up and down the streets. Now I have kids and we dress them up and go to our local church parking lot and stand in line to trick or treat. I think it's kinda lame, but oh well.

I also love horror movies. In particular, I am fond of zombie flicks. My favorites are probably the 90's remake of Night Of The Living Dead and the 2004 remake of Dawn Of The Dead.

I think that the whole notion of zombies is ironic. The dead come back to life and want to eat the living.

In this life where we live at in Hateworld, you can look at the zombie myth in several ways.
We being dead to the world in fact are some sort of "good' zombie. Dead to the world, alive in Christ.
Or, the world is full of dead people who think that they are living, they in fact are the zombies.
Dead to Christ and alive to the world.

Or one other metaphor that I have used a zombie for is my dead flesh.
It's dead and it always wants to consume me!

Romans 6 has a lot to say about living dead and dead living!

Romans 6:1-11

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Reckon yourselves dead indeed!

Colossians 3:1-10

"If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,"

Alive in Christ!

Colossians 3:12-17

"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

We are to be dead to the world and alive to God in Christ!

To be crucified with Christ is to be dead to this Hateworld!

Galatians 2:20

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."

Galatians 5:24

"And those who are Christs have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."

Galatians 6:14

"But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."

We are called to be set apart from the wickedness of this life. It's tough! The zombie-like nature of the dead flesh wants and wants and wants, and if it gets, it will consume and consume and consume.

We are to bear another death...

Luke 9:23-24

"Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.""

I am dead to sin. That may not always show it's self to be true. But One has died for me and rose again to the full newness of life on my behalf. I am dead to this Hateworld... but alive in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

And for that I am eternally grateful!

Dearest Brothers and Sisters, grace and peace to you.

What's Your Worth?

The Word is stronger than all the evils in the soul. The Word is the healing power who dwells in him. -- Origen

Remember: One lie does not cost you one truth but the truth. -- Christian Freidrich Hebbel

Our faith and our friendships are not shattered by one big act, but by many small neglects. -- J. Gustav White

Everything that deceives may be said to enchant. -- Plato

Keep one thing in view forever- the truth; and if you do this, though it may seem to lead you away from the opinion of men, it will assuredly conduct you to the throne of God. -- Horace Mann

O God, grant that today
I may not disappoint any friend;
I may not grieve any loved one;
I may not fail anyone to whom I have a duty;
I may not shame myself.
Grant that today
I may do my work with honesty and fidelity;
I may take my pleasure in happiness and purity.
Grant that today
I may lead no one astray;
I may not make goodness and faith harder for anyone.
Help me today
to be a help and example to all;
to bring strength and encouragement wherever I am:
Through Jesus Christ my Lord, Amen.
-- William Barclay (1907-1978)

Steadfastness in believing doth not exclude all temptations from without. When we say a tree is firmly rooted, we do not say the wind never blows upon it. -- John Owen (1616-1683)

The testimony of the New Testament cannot be lightly disregarded, nor can the claims of Christ be airily dismissed. Many otherwise intelligent people have never read with adult attention either the four Gospels or the Letters of the New Testament. When they so do, to my certain knowledge they not infrequently become converted. Indeed, I know of no adult who has seriously studied the New Testament and rejected the stories of Christ as mythical or the evidence of changed lives in the Letters as mere fabrication. -- J. B. Phillips (1906-1982)

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

If I mistake, He will forgive me. I do not fear Him: I only fear lest, able to see and write these things, I should fail of witnessing and myself be, after all, a castaway--no king but a talker: no disciple of Jesus, ready to go with Him to the death, but an arguer about the truth. -- George MacDonald (1824-1905)

Even when we cannot see the why and wherefore of God's dealings, we know that there is love in and behind them, and so we can rejoice always. -- J. I. Packer

Greetings.

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

I have a question for you; what is your worth?
I know at times I "feel" worthless, like an absolute scoundrel and degenerate.
And I guess in reality, outside of what Jesus Christ has done for me, for His glory, I guess I am.
At the least this earthly flesh that the real me is encased in, is degenerate to the utmost.
There is nothing good in and of myself.

Romans 3:10-12

As it is written:

There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.

But thanks be to God that my worth lays not in my puny and futile hands, heart and mind.
My worth is not measured up in who I am, what I do or what I have done.
My worth is not based on my feelings. It's not made up by me.

My worth is given by a Holy and Just Father, who by His decree and design, sent His only Son to be a ransom for me. To pay for my unpayable debt of sin. To make me to stand before Him, holy and blameless...

Colossians 1:21-23

"And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard,"

Sometimes it's hard to continue in the faith. I try and try to do things in my own strength.
I turn my eyes to the temporal trials and tribulations that come down around me.
I, in and of myself, will fail every every every time, but I still have an infinite worth before the Father.

Check this out...

John 1:1-5, 10-13

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

We were made reborn by the will of God who is eternal and absolutely holy above all other things!
Our worth is measured by His work and His work alone!

Glory be to God for our salvation! He alone is worthy to be praised!

Dearest brothers and sisters, grace and peace to you. ~ eric

The Triptych
By Demon Hunter

Undying

Ever since the day that I was made I've been deciding the end
And I was made of wood and stone that won't diminish or bend
So when the heavy hand of death is here to take me away
I'll be the solid grip of time, forever holding my stay
Nobody ever made a force that took a beating like me
I call the earth and every scum to come and try to fight me
Cus when I made the choice to live beyond the dirt that we tread
I felt the curse of mortal limit fall before it was said

Pre-chorus:
When this season ends...

Chorus:
One final heart-break
And blinding lights will guide our way
Free us our blind state
They will call us by our name
Undying

Tearing through these days I find the tolerance to strive and push on
I know what lies beyond this life for me is already won
No one can take away the blood that covers over my fall
Without the blood of perfect life I know I'm nothing at all
So now I reign forever hallowed in eternity's hand
No man can shake me from the everlasting ground that I stand

Pre-chorus:
When this season ends...

Chorus:
One final heart-break
And blinding lights will guide our way
Free us our blind state
They will call us by our name
Undying

We are the ones who will still remain when all is laid to waste
We are the ones who, when angels cry, will see them face to face
We are the ones

(Chorus)
