Reflection
Work experience. Well, to start, I wanted to do something different, and exciting. I work as a dishwasher, and am well versed in the repetitiveness and boring qualities of most everyday jobs. I also wanted a place in a nice location in other words not a mall. Of course, I also considered things like my own likes and dislikes when it comes to jobs. I wanted to learn new things, work with people, the whole shebang.
So where could I go? Like always I had a lot of unfulfillable goals like working at the Georgia straight or a with milk man things I know wouldnt happen, because those kind of places dont regularly take on extra workers.
Which, though some sort of odd mind process, lead me to the place that I thought would the art gallery. I knew that they ran mostly on volunteers, which is practically the same things as a work experience students, except full time. I have been going to the Vancouver art gallery for all my life, so Im familier with it, but not overy so, and I know for a fact that its in a nice location.
So deciding on where to go was easy but getting a hold of them turned out to be more of a challenge. Though a combonation of e-mails and phone calls I Eventually managed to reach sherry Stuart the volunteer resource director, and set up a interview. Which I came out of in good spirits. Sherry kind of reminded me of Dumbledore, she sat behind her desk and clasped her hands together when she got excited about things, and has these slim little glasses that perch on the end of her nose and she smiles a lot.
The only thing left for me to was buy clothes. I wasnt very sure how to dress in a art gallery (Im still not) and the only advice I was given by my boss when I asked was. Not jeans, because the director of the gallery has something bad against them, I was tod, and falt soled shoes.
So I raced out and bought a ton of work pants which I though would do, and a bunch of flats (the only others shoes I owned where converse sneakers and bowling shoes) and I was set to go.
