HUMANITIES PAPER THAT I HAD TO PUT SOMEWHERE TO ACCESS AT HOME BECAUSE I DID THIS AT SCHOOL.

Avery DeFranco Mrs. Ruddy Humanities II April 3, 2009 One Step at Time Candide tells the story of a man who is figuring out his ways of thinking. As a class, our ways of thinking have changed since we first stepped through the high school’s doors four years ago. Not only have we found the good things in life, but the bad ones also. Throughout his travels, Candide had to lose, win, and he even found love along the way. Our senior class has faced these same obstacles. Candide also had to learn to “cultivate his garden”. Philosopher and writer Voltaire wrote in his book “Candide” of all these life lessons, we should take a few with us as we leave this school. A lot can be learned from this little Candide character. Optimistic views aren’t always how you will think, and vice versa. We may not leave here with the same views as we started with. As a class, we have changed throughout our journey. As we move on, we will all change a million times. Different occurrences will some and go that will cultivate our minds. We have been on so many adventures and field trips. Our knowledge has been tested, and we even have learned a few life lessons as well. In this classic book, Candide went to a utopia. He wanted to go home from this place in a short time, because it was too perfect. As humans, we even get bored of perfection. With that said, just remember that you may not need to reach exact perfection. You may get bored with it. As long as you are happy with yourself, all will be good. We may think college is perfect as well as our future jobs. After a short time you will want to come home for a while, and that is perfectly fine. There is no need to be stressed over the little things in life. So, as we leave here today, we must take one thing with us. Never stop learning, and always keep an open mind.
