I love compilation CD's because they generally have the best music from a certain artist. However, the one thing that a greatest hits album doesn't have is a story. Every main release from an artist tells some type of story. Usually, it will relate to the band's personal lives at the time they wrote the lyrics and recorded the album. Other times, it will focus on important issues in this world that the band finds particularly important. For example, "For the Love of the Game" by Pillar is all about faith in action and making an impact in this world. Skillet's "Comatose" is about making it through rough times. "Jesus Freak" is speaks of being set apart from the world. Flyleaf's self-entitled debut release focuses on the beauty of redemption and God's unconditional love. Of course, it is much less evident in some CD's than in others. And not every song in the album follows that theme - it may be as few as three, it just depends on the artist. I encourage those of you who have never considered this before to listen carefully to the lyrics of one of your favorite CD's (perhaps several times few) in search for a theme. Once you see the story that a CD tells, you might be able to see some of the individual songs in a new way.
