I support unsigned bands. Because

a)...music is cheaper for me when the band is not signed,
b)...all of the money that I do pay goes directly to the artists (do with what they please),
c)...there is no "man behind the curtin" allowing the artists to direct their own PR, sounds, etc.,
d)...it forces artists to become familear with the business world and understand what it means to support oneself as an artist (in the same way that a painter must sell herself to make a living),
e)...it encourages true quality/talent in music, as opposed to using a fancy studio to make yourself sound better than you really do, and
f)...there is no media control in the underground (i.e. record lables being in bed with the radio stations).

Not to say that musicians that are signed do not produce quality work. However, it is unwise on their part to submitt to the arse-raping that is the record lable industry.
