So here is how it goes....... Laminin is vital to making sure overall body structures held together. The Biology of it....blah blah....blah....if you understand the following....that's amazing!! Laminin Structure. A laminin molecule consists of three large polypeptides—α,β1 and β2-- joined by disulfide bonds into a crossliriked structure. A portion of the long arm consists of a three- stranded coil. The functional domains on the ends of the αchain bind to organ-specific cell-surface receptors, whereas those at the ends of the two arms of the cross are specific for type IV co1agen. The cross-arms also contain laminin-Paminin binding sites, thereby enabling laminin molecules to bind to each other and form large aggregates. Laminin also contains binding sites for heparin and heparin sulfate, as well as for entactin (not shown). The Basal Lamina. The basal lamina is a thin sheet, typically about 50 nm, of matrix material that separates an epithelial cell layer from underlying connective tissue The IMPORTANCE OF IT!!......
