When it comes to straightening hair, there are many different types of methods available for those looking to tame their tousled tresses. However, knowing how to straighten your hair properly, efficiently and without causing serious damage is in an important issues that many would-be hair wranglers fall short on. By properly knowing how to care for your hair, you can prevent damage and promote a fantastic, healthy-look looking style.
In order to obtain straight hair, whether you're aiming for something semi-permanent or just to keep things easy to manage for everyday use, there are a few selections one may opt for when it comes to altering hair. The popular methods are often done by a professional or by the actual individual, and would be such processes as keratin straightening, thermal reconditioning, conventional straightening and chemical straightening.
Thermal recondition, or Japanese straightening, is a method which straightens the hair through ionic hair retexturizing. This changes the structure of the hair and is also done with that of ionic irons, which help to seal moisture in during the time of treatment. This form of straightening can last up to about six month, giving pin-straight results and frizz-free control; however, a professional will need to asses one's hair type as not all hair types will benefit from this method.
Keratin treatments are most often known as Brazilian hair straightening, which is said to do well on many hair types, including hair that has been previously treated chemically before. A keratin-based solution is applied to washed hair that has been blow-dried and sectioned off, then the the hair is ironed in order to infuse the keratin into the hair and is left as such for several days. Results will last anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. It is said to condition the hair, giving it a frizz-free and more manageable look without leaving it pin-straight or causing permanent damage.
Hair that is treated chemically is where the hair's structure is later, and is often referred to as relaxing. While it isn't necessarily a complicated treatment, many suggest that an experienced professional is used for the job who understands the overall process on specific hair types. Results can last up to six months, or until new hair growth comes in more fully, although kinkier types of hair may not show pin-straight results; however, this can often be achieved by conventional means more easily.
The most popular methods for conventional straightening are blow drying and/or using a flat iron. Others may prefer methods that require little to no heat such as using large curlers or wrapping methods; however, either method offers temporary results until the next washing or until the hair is made wet.
Blow drying the hair straight is a common method used by many, which can offer a significant amount of volume to the hair versus that of other methods. In most cases, the hair may not be as straight as it might otherwise be through the use of a flat iron; however, excessive or poorly-done blow drying may results in brittleness or split ends if one isn't careful. It may also be used along side flat ironing to promote a more thorough straightness and to give more body.
Flat ironing the hair straight is increasingly becoming more popular due to the versatility that many of today's irons offer such as pin-straight looks or adding waves and curls. It is important that when selecting an iron that quality is considered over prices, as less brands are often known to damage the hair more several or require more steps in order to achieve the look desired, and can even bring results that don't last as long as other, higher-quality irons.
When it comes to learning how to straighten your hair properly and effectively, it can take a little bit of research and trial and error. However, it's always important to make sure that protective styling products such as thermal heat protectants are used with any heat-styling method; otherwise, you may cause more damage than is necessary. It's also highly recommended, no matter what treatment or method is chosen, to perform regular deep conditioning treatments in order to prevent hair from becoming dry, brittle and damaged.
