Memory is a tenuous thing. . . . flickering glimpses, blue and white, like an ancient, decomposing 16mm film. Happiness escapes me there, where faces are vague and yesterday seems to come tied up in ribbons of pain.
Happiness? I look for it in today, where memory is something I can still touch, still rely on. I find it in the smiles of new friends, the return of old ones, the hope blossoming inside.
My happiest memories have no place in the past;
they are those I have yet to create.
I'm Lara, and chances are if your reading this, I like you already.(: I'm a very loving person. You will never find another one like me. I leave an impact on people's lives. I'm probably the nicest person you will ever want to meet. People say I am selfless to a fault. My standards aren't high, but the world's are. I would say that there's not a lot to me, but truth is, I probably run a lot deeper than most people you know. I probably see the world in a completely different way then you do. I want to make a difference. I take on the world singlehandedly everyday. I believe in second chances. I'm not too great at starting conversations. I prefer to listen to what others have to say. I look for the good in every person. I love to help people. I am very patient. I value everyone's opinion, even if it's different then my own. I am a vegetarian. Horoscopes and things like that intrigue me, even though I think they're utter bullshit. My zodiac sign is a Taurus. I'll change my mind about a million times, but once I make up my mind about something, I stick to it. I am very stubborn. I say what I want, and I stand up for what I believe, regardless of what others think. I tell it like it is. I never back down. I'm not afraid to be my own person, nor do I fit any of your labels. I'm loud and obnoxious. I'm quiet and shy. I'm a lover and an artist and a musician. A realist. I kind of like change, and I adapt well. I'm about as attractive as a car crash. I'm the kind of person you will give something to and I will still have it ten years from now. My favorite songs will tell you more about me than my mouth ever will. My obsession is with The Used, among other things.(: I have a terrible memory, unless it involves numbers. Ironically, I'm not the best in math. I'm very curious. I'm extremely impulsive. I don't think anything through. I love adventure, and I'll try just about anything once. I have a hard time opening up to others. I don't really trust people, and I have a hard time trusting myself. Don't try to understand me. I don't even understand myself. I am so interested in the world. It blows my mind. I love the sky and the stars, I love the animals and the dirt and the flowers and the trees and the snow and the rain and the oceans. Everything. I truly believe it's the little things in life. I love sitting on my front porch watching the rain. The smell of a freshly mowed lawn. The laughter of a friend, or the smile of a stranger passing by on the street. The millions of sounds in the hallway at school, the silence of solitary walk. The sky at night filled with thousands of millions of stars. Some people live for the big moments, I live for the little ones. I think a lot, maybe too much. I overanalyze things until there's nothing left. I observe every little thing, and I love thinking about other people and why they do what they do, or why they are where they are. If they were ever so in love. I've made my share of mistakes, and I hope to make many more, so I can learn everything there is about life.. and myself. I want to experience everything. I want to fall in love. I want to be left behind. I want to see the world through someone else's eyes. I want to discover the secret to life. I want to almost die and then come back to see if there is maybe anything after this life. I want to travel the world and see places and do things that everyone and no one has done before. I want to live. I want to know. I want to know everything. Someday I hope to figure it all out.

It's hard to relive a story.

From the first troubled hours when it first began, and the endless days that followed, to the deadening silence of the very last second, when everything came to an end...
You remember it all: every word, every look, every breath, every moment, every tick of the clock... it stays with you forever.
You can never forget it.

I think a person's life is supposed to be like a DVD. You can see it the way everyone else sees it, or you can choose the directors cut - the way he wanted to see it, before everything else got in the way.
There are menus, probably, so that you can start at the good spots and not have to relive the bad ones. You can measure your life by the number of scenes you've survived, or the minutes you've been stuck there.
But really, life is probably more like one of those stupid video surveillance tapes. Blurry, no matter how hard you stare at it. And looped: the same thing, over. and over. and over...
childhood.
Ten years ago we used to play in the mud. Our feet got all muddy and cold. I could never feel my toes. Our eyes began to shift back and forth, like a heroin withdrawl, but we never felt anything like that. We were children. We stared at clouds and looked for shapes to make sense, and the wind to shape their form. We would sleep in the backyard, looking for shooting stars, but I've never seen one in my life. We could be able to eat whatever we wanted without having to read the label on anything. We would sing obnoxious kiddy songs at the top of our lungs, and everyone would think it was cute. Photographs were always a must, because we would need something to look back to remember the "good old days." Our problems were few, but we thought they were a big deal, no one even knows. When it rained we'd build a shelter and pretend it was a terminal storm waiting above the clouds to eat us up. Every year these memories keep fading and fading like a stream of gasoline on fire, burning forward and ashing everything behind it. Eventually the line of gasoline burns out...

We all have to make decisions, and at the time, they may seem like the right ones. But that doesn't mean they'll be right forever. Sometimes we realize that in the long run, there are no right or wrong decisions anyway, just choices we need to make to get through the moment. We may do things that seem wrong, but we do them for the right reasons, so maybe their not so wrong after all...
