I'm Andrew. Straight Edge. Misanthropist. I love music, and I actually mean it. People today throw those three words together to make themself look somewhat interesting by todays standard. I play in the band The Terrigen Mists, we're a progressive/death metal band from Powdersville, SC. We've shared the stage with bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, The Black Dahlia Murder, ABACABB, Psyopus, and many more. We're endorsed by Fernandes Guitars. Check us out at www.myspace.com/theterrigenmists. I'm big on brotherhood, my friends are more like my family to me, when the world turns its back on me, they will ALWAYS have my back.
I'm as straight as the line that you sniff up your nose.
I'm as hard as the booze that you swill down your throat.
I'm as bad as the shit you breath into your lungs.
And I'll fuck you up as fast as the pill on your tongue.
STRAIGHT EDGE REVENGE.
This time you've pushed me too far.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

Sorry to break it to you kids, but music with hardcore breakdowns are just a trend. In the 'core' genres, a breakdown is sometimes used in place that the term "bridge" would be used. But bands that I've mentioned before such as The Acacia Strain, Emmure, Oceano, ABACABB, etc. have time and time again stretched them over a complete album. A "breakdown" is an actual musical term, that has different meaning varying on the musical genre being played. I agree a hardcore breakdown is fun to listen to, but when you see it influence as many people I've seen try and fail at bands because it's so God damn generic. Brutal-chord-Open-Chord, 2-step, are you kidding me? I've seen this soooooo many times in my local music scene, there is no variation. I admit, I at one time was guilty of this, but people who are trying to "do something to change the face of local music" are failing at it.
Another thing is TWLOHA, I mean I guess it's cool, and I see how they're trying to prevent depression, suicide, etc. But I think that if someone is actually depressed, why not hire a psychiatrist? Why not put them in an institution if they're really suicidal? I don't think a t-shirt would lift my spirits enough out of an ever spiraling depression to end my life. Then again, I see how it's all about the message, but you have to see where I'm coming from. Why not put your money into some stuff to prevent world hunger? Something that will help clothe and shelter the homeless? Hey, I mean Paramore and Mayday Parade might not be doing shit like that, but just because it's not 'trendy', doesn't mean it's not helpful. Open up your eyes and hearts, I'm sure everyone around my age has had scary thoughts about killing themselves, I know I have. I just think TWLOHA is a waste of time, besides all the money put into it goes to making more t-shirts. Way to go! That'll put a smile on some depressed kids face. Ha.
Mis-labeling of music.
Being a vegeterian because Oli Sykes is one.
How people say they love all kinds of music BUT country and hip-hop, are you fucking kidding me?
Looking on a persons page and they describe themself as "someone like you've never met". Ha! You're as different as the plethora of kids standing in line at Warped Tour.
Guys who treat their girls like shit.
Junkies, alcoholics, and abusers.
If I said I hated fakes and liars, that'd be too cliche', so how about any person who acts as someone else to gain attention, and self glorification.
Ignorant, closed-minded persons, you may also include religious figures if you desire.
"Yerr gonna burn in hellllllll!"
Nickelback, Hinder, 3 Doors Down, Buckcherry, etc.
People who bash Straight Edge without having any prior knowledge of it.
Edgebreakers.
Being caught up in teenage drama bullshit.
Being completely overlooked by the opposite sex because I don't have straight hair, skinny jeans, and listen to BMTH.
Myself.
Being fucked over.
Bands that are more about the image they portray than the actual music they play.
A lot of people can't seem to understand what real hardcore music is. Hardcore bands are bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag, Have Heart, Casey Jones, Verse, Bane, Advent, Shipwreck, etc. Bands that are not hardcore that people like to think are, are bands such as The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack!, Alesana, A Day To Remember, and so on. If you're going to try and say what is hardcore, learn what real hardcore is, it's punk-driven, passionate, and inspirational. What's not, is skinny jeans, teased and straightened hair, Hot Topic, and auto-tuners.
This whole thing with a different genre of music really burns my ass too. Real metal DOES NOT contain breakdowns. Breakdowns are hardcore influenced, and have blended in to many types of music, creating Metalcore, Deathcore, etc. THE BREAKDOWN DOES NOT MAKE A BAND, unless of course you are The Acacia Strain, Emmure (Acacia rip-off), or Oceano. So tell me what you think about all of this.
