travelers and wanderers, tired and broken,
your parched lips will find no relief here anymore...
this well is empty and dry.
a girl spending her nights dancing with princes,
that spends her days on her back with apes...
her eyes empty and dry.

ten thousand white doves fall out of the sky
while we hate each other but we don't know why.
why live if you can not love?

i'm walking faster than the smoke
i just exhaled into this cold
and despite this i have failed
to calm the storming seas
that are raging from my heart to my shaking knees

"how do you feel?"
well, i feel like my lungs have turned to gills,
and i'm too far from water.

i'm talking faster than the words
will come out, they come out slurred
and i doubt you'll care if i say
that i've seen hope drained from eyes
of children learning the world's not a beautiful lie.

"is something wrong?"
the wind's too weak to turn this ship around,
and we've created ends to oceans.

the machines are all ticking and counting
but they can count me right out.
no, don't count me at all...

oh, i can't help but be enveloped
by this newfound equanimity.
like children playing, i'm losing track of time.
have i found a split in the seam?
a new existence in a dream?
how i've dreamt of nothingness.
how i've yearned for something as beautiful
as the value of zero.

staring off through time.
a car of pretty girls goes speeding by
laughing and taunting, throwing garbage at his lap.
he was the most handsome boy in high school.
he was the bravest soldier in the war.

and he lost everything.
nothing can break him anymore.

he can't remember the american dream.
i can see the world through his eyes.
i could never see the american dream.
so i pull up a chair in the middle of the street,
and we sit staring off through time.
