So, These are always awkward to write. Man. I feel like I am in high school again... writing a cool paragraph full of melodrama and artistic angst. Not this time, I say to myself. Now, I am mature. Five years later though, this paragraph will be like a bur in my saddleâan uncomfortable reminder of how arrogant and naïve I was back then. Whatever. I will just have to get over it.
Things are different. No longer to we charter the waters of Dallas, Tx. We are spread out across the nationâour parents moved to the wooded hill town of Boerne, (which is really an odd way of spelling âBernieâ). We go there only for breaks. Right now, Marcellino is kicking ass somewhere in the everlush marshes of Florida, learning about literature and putting on concerts. I (Anthony) am in St. Paul, Mn, trying not to freeze and putting in a mediocre effort at learning philosophy. We are writing sporadically, recording sporadically, and doing our best to make music that is worth making. It is funny how things can change so slowly-- you barely notice it. But the darkness of Dallas, its soot, its orange-opaque night sky; the tiny world of high school, the concrete sidewalks and rows of brick houses, the bored children, the wet lawns; the drama, the needy girlfriends, the missing parents; the skateboards, the harsh sound the wheels make on the street, the sleepovers-- childhood, in short, has shrunk back into periphery of memory. It is gone! We are gone. Dallas is a trap from which we have escaped. But we pause before we shove off into the larger trap of adulthood and its endless seas of both love and responsibility. But oh, God what a wonderful trap it will be compared to the last. Now, though, we stretch out our arms in a yawn, and know that we can't hit that damned snooze button forever. Two more minutes. Two more years of college-- and then, we will have to get up. For now... we surf upon that surreal line between sleep and wake, childhood and adulthood, and we are going to make the best of it.
Light the Skies is currently writing/recording an acoustic demo. It will be out soon. If you have any ideas for names, hit us up. PEACE
