Typing "Boston, MA Review" was strange and now looking at it again is even stranger. I don't think we've ever played Boston before...
Either way, we're going to go ahead and consider our first show at Bill's Bar a success. Here's why:
A ton of heads showed up and we felt like we played a decent set. I was actually a little nervous just before I stepped up to the mic, but as soon as those lights hit we took off. The atmosphere in that place is fantastic. More importantly, though, we all had a blast hanging out with the 35 peoples we got to show up as well as our nearest and dearest band-buddies, Lannen Fall. Sharing the stage with those boys is always a pleasure, but being able to hang out at a bar immediately following our sets is another thing entirely. They killed (obviously). On top of that, they even gave us a sneak peak of their latest recording--which is amazing (obviously).
The highlights of the evening include (but are in no way limited to):
- I almost fell off-stage twice. True story.
- Two different girls hit on me, which is a world record.
- We shared secrets with other bands.
- We played a new song that doesn't have lyrics yet, which is not a world record.
- And Fred came out to the show in support of his best friends and brother. Was it surreal to have him watch us instead of playing alongside us? Yes. But I also felt really proud about what we were able to show him Saturday night. Since we've solidified our line-up, I've been dying for him--and even us, for that matter--to be comfortable enough to come watch a set, hang out, and offer us an honest opinion about what how he feels about the direction we're taking. Not that we were "performing for him" or anything, but his opinion has always been important to me. He is my brother, after all, and on top of that he helped make this band into what it is, for better or worse. I wanted his support with what we've been able to do without him and for the most part, I think we got it. His only piece of advice: "You guys have GOT to move more." Fitting. If that's the most hard-hitting piece of advice that an ex-member can offer, I'm happy with that. I'm pretty sure he digs the new band, too.
Because whether it shows or not, I definitely do feel like I'm in a completely different band; and I don't want to speak for Ad and Pat, but I think they do too. Chad and Darren have turned everything that we do on its head. From practice, to songwriting, to van rides, and our live shows, it's a completely different dynamic, and I couldn't be happier about it. I don't feel like anyone's "new" anymore. Chad's got something like 30 shows with us under his belt. The transition for him has been over for months. And as for Darren, we considered him a friend long before he ever brought his bass to practice. This is just as much his band as it is mine, or Pat's, or Adam's.
I apologize for taking a serious turn so unexpectedly, but I've gotten so used to treating this band's blog as if it were my own that I barely even noticed.
How'd the show end? Endway shmoozed the audience for 2 hours to close out the night. It was... interesting. After that, we headed home to lay our heavy heads to sleep.
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

The winners of this year's Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands Warped Tour contest were announced yesterday and though we weren't selected, we are ecstatic about who was: Lannen Fall, Vallon, Thirteen Yards to Victory, and Astrea. Above anything else, we consider most of these bands to be brothers-in-arms and we couldn't be more excited for them and their opportunity to rock out at this year's Warped Tour (side note: I would say "all" if we knew Astrea better**). But what's even more satisfying is what I think this says about the state of music in our area.
All four winning bands are from generally the same corner of the state map. We all know each other, we all play together, and in many different combinations of bands and friends we all party together: Boston, East Boston, Danvers, and Weymouth. Not mentioned here are Worcester, Springfield, New Bedford, Fitchburg or anywhere else with great, flourishing bands and admirable music scenes, two things this state has a limiteless supply of. This doesn't mean that the music in our area is in any way better or somehow more exciting or "in"--something that would be absolutely ridiculous to think or say--or that our scene is "taking over," or any similar kind of bullshit turfwar statement. But it could mean that the bands in this area might just be working a little bit harder to get the word out, and that the kids from our backyard might just be proving a little more apt to listen. And that, my friends, is a really cool thing.
If anyone from the selected bands are reading this, best of luck at the show and keep doing exactly what you're doing. Obviously, something's working.
The last thing I'm going to talk about is our interim band member. Darren (Anola's Recovery/Full Fit) has been helping us stay afloat while we continue our search for a permanent bass player and we can't thank him enough for it. If he hadn't swooped in and saved the day, we definitely wouldn't have been able to play this Friday at Knapp's Undergound (practical concern), and we would've been completely suicidal if we had to keep practicing without a bass to lock things up (we're unstable). So I just wanted to take a sec to say thank you via blog. If you want to see how well this little experiment turns out, shoot us an email and you can caravan to VT with us for the show (Pat's bringing his hibachi).
Everyone try to keep cool and hang in there with us. The EP is forever forthcoming and so is a new/permanent bass player (fingers crossed) and a new lay-out for our page.
Talk to you all very soon.

Perhaps you've already noticed, but if you're reading this at our MySpace page we have a new available for download. It's called "Confessions of a Serial Crusher" and we're extremely excited to be able to share this latest version our newest song with you. Though it's not the final version---eventually, mixed and mastered versions of Serial, Bleed, and a song I think we're going to call "I'm with You" will be released on a 3 song EP that we're planning on calling "The Company We Keep," and will be for sale on iTunes---it's a version that we're proud of and that we simply couldn't wait to share with you.
So, you have our blessing: download it, share it, and listen to it relentlessly. Commit every beat and every word to memory, and the next time we're in town, singing duties can be a family affair.
Next up: a newer, closer-to-complete version of Bleed and a first look at I'm with You. Any and all feedback, positive or negative, about the songs so far is welcome to us, but I'm not going to lie to you: we all have our fingers crossed and we really hope you love them as much as we do.
Enjoy

Sometimes I wonder if anyone ever reads this thing....
We had tomorrow's Good Time Emporium show listed on our page for like a month, but apparently nothing is going down. Those clowns were going to let us show up there with all our equipment and not even tell us. We'll show them...
In other news, a brand new song will be up and available for purchase on our Myspace page (yeah, the same one you're looking at now) by next week, the latest. It's going to be the first of three: Confessions of a Serial Crusher, Bleed, and I'm with You in that order, so brace yourselves. Everyone's beyond excited with how they've turned out and our hope is that you'll all feel the same way.
That's all for now. I should be elbow deep in homework for the next three or four hours, so if you feel like emailing (or if you feel like calling, Sean), I should be awake.

Much to my surprise, we've ended up as one of Purevolume's prestigious Pure Picks. Thanks for checking us out; hopefully you like what you hear.
Quick Introduction:
For those of you who have never heard of us--which I'm guessing is most of you--we're a Boston based five-piece rock band that's been playing around these parts, in one form or another, for the last 5 years. We have a couple demos and one EP under our belt and we are currently working on our second 3-song effort that should be out shortly. We added our 5th member fairly recently and are writing new songs daily.
Good. Now that we're friends, feel free to head on over to our Myspace page to make it official: www.myspace.com/letterday. And if your feeling generous, we could really use your help in the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands. Four of the top 20 bands will get to play the Ernie Ball stage at the Boston and NY dates of this year's Warped Tour, and we are literally DYING to be there. If you click on the banner at the top of this profile, or head to www.battleofthebands.com/letterday, click vote twice, fill out your information, and follow-through with the voter confirmation email, it would mean the world to us. In fact, we would be so appreciative, that if you forward us your voter confirmation email, we'll send you a copy of our "Someone Else EP" for free.
So I'll leave you with that. Thanks again for checking out the page, and if you're ever at a show, don't hesitate to stop by the merch table to hang out. We're very chatty. Kind of like The Golden Girls, but younger. And male.
