Lastwind is my working name. I am Paul Hayles and I have had a long and varied career in the music business.
LASTWIND has finally gone out as a live band whilst working on our first album. LASTWIND live are myself (keyboards, programming and voice) plus a brilliant French guitarist and producer, OBNY.
Our style is dnace music meets space rock.
I am a keyboard player, composer, arranger and producer and, besides working under the Lastwind name, have recently recorded a mini album of my compositions under the name : THIS, THAT, THE OTHER. The other members of this band are :
Rob Merrill (Roni Size and Reprezent) - DRUMS, Guy Calhoun (DJSUV, The Search etc.) - BASS,
Latch - GUITAR and Sonic (Dub from Atlantis etc) and Laurence de Loes - VOCALS.
This CD is out on FeeltheQualityRecords.
My CV includes a long list of bands and musicians of which the most known are :
Hawkwind, Topper Headon, The Cropdusters and Jalal Nurinda of the Last Poets.
As this list shows, my range of styles is quite wide.
I also right music for licence and in this category one of my recent works is MONSTER TRUCKS which FTQR is bringing out as a single, with a re-mix by OBNY, another musical friend of many years.

So, I'm over in France for the Christmas and New Year enjoying visiting family and friends and, with OBNY, working on the lastwind album. Hopefully we will have chosen all the tunes and intend recording the vocals of SLOTS (all the various sounds and parts now finished), AUTOROUTE and a couple of others.
So bonnes fetes to everyone and more in the New Year.

Hey, sad as it is, our short mini tour is over. We played to some great crowds and got a grand reception, one fan even leaning over the balcony in Derby to exhort the crowd to salute OBNY's guitar playing.
We are going to be busy finishing the album over the coming couple of months. But in the meantime we have posted some live tracks on our various sites.

YEs, well we have done our first two live shows. The band was just me and OBNY a brilliant French musician playing guitar. The shows went well, particularly The Junction in Cambridge. Great crowd who gave us a great reception. We're all geared up for the next two in Wolverhampton and Derby. See you there maybe. Plus, HAWKWIND, put on a fantastic show and they still attract a large and fervent crowd. And they liked us too, particularly our last number, MONSTER TRUCKS.

YES, IT'S SURE. AFTER SO MUCH TIME SPENT WRITING AND RECORDING, LASTWIND IS OFF ON THE ROAD.
DAVE BROCK OF HAWKWIND EMAILED ME THE OTHER WEEK AND SUGGESTED WE MIGHT LIKE TO DO IT - HE'D GATHERED I HAD A FUNCTIONING BAND THROUGH OUR WEBSITE.
SO LOOK OUT. SOME BRAND NEW NUMBERS, A BRAND NEW LINE UP, SOUND TO GET PEOPLE READY FOR THE HAWKWIND EXPERIENCE.
AND WE'VE PRODUCED A LIMITED EDITION 3 TRACK CD AND POSTER JUST FOR THIS VENTURE, ON SALE AT THE GIGS.

Back in town and back means busy. I'm starting rehearsing for a series of gigs with a reggae singer (Steel Pulse contact) and planning the recording of an album of my urban toons with lyrics by Sonic. I'm also preparing a CD of music for licence for a new agency in New York and have been asked to play keyboards on another project.
So, it's good to be back,, particularly as the weather is bright and warm for now. The city has a certain buzz, the students are starting to arrive in force and the live scene will hot up for their arrival. The Search are a band I need to see soon and my old mate Reg Meuross has a album launch gig coming up.
Life is good, what more can I say. And me and my lady are catching up after some time apart.
