In the last few years North Carolina\'s music scene has slowly shifted from the power pop and indie rock that dominated this area in the mid to late 90s to the harder, more intense sounds of post hardcore, screamo and metal. However, the majority of the labels in the region, such as Yep Roc and Merge, stayed focused on the music that had helped give birth to them.

In March 2005, the need for a label that could represent this harder wave of music and help bring it to the rest of the world was satisfied by the formation of Tragic Hero Records. The name was new but the talent behind the label was anything but. Previous incarnations of the same team had been a staple of NCs independent scene for the past 6 years. With the label formed and the vision in place, the next step was finding talent to represent what Tragic Hero intended to prove. The label found this in alesana. An up and coming band recently relocated to Raleigh from Baltimore, alesana played music that was an amalgamation of several genres that they had dubbed Sweetcore, alesana was the perfect first band for a label looking to change peoples minds about what popular music could sound like.

Shortly after releasing alesanas debut EP Try This with Your Eyes Closed, the label went back to work looking for bands to carry their banner into the world. It wasnt much longer before they found and signed Charlotte metal stalwarts Scapegoat and the budding Greenville quintet Your Name in Vain.

With the release of Scapegoats sophomore LP, Let our Violins Be Heard in October and Your Name in Vains debut EP in late November, the label is extremely happy with what it has accomplished so far. But dont expect Tragic Hero to sit back and watch. The label has a full plate going into the new year to ensure the label and the artists it represents give you all the tragedy money can buy.
