Ever since he picked up his dad's guitar for the first time at the age of 10, Kyle Knutson has been addicted to music. At age 19, Kyle is a very young and talented songwriter who has recently been making his way onto the performance scene. A native of eastern rural South Dakota, Kyle grew up listening to the likes of such country acts as Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson to name a few. However, as he entered into his teenage years, he quickly became hooked on blues. Although he absorbed much of his inspiration from the likes of B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kyle has a very mellowed out acoustic approach of performing blues.
By accompanying himself with harmonica and acoustic guitar, he creates a very laid back atmosphere for music lovers and listeners alike to enjoy. With his catchy lines, a variety of blues licks, and a voice that some have said is comparable to that of Lyle Lovett, Kyle has created a style which is somewhat refreshing and unique. A vast majority of the songs he performs in his shows are mostly originals. However, he can also serenade his audiences with everything from up tempo covers such as "Classical Gas" to his very own soothing instrumental arrangement of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
Even though he has a distinct style and love of blues, Kyle has also been known to write some very interesting folk, country, and even children's songs. Some of these songs will make people laugh and recall precious memories, while others carry very powerful messages and may even leave listeners a little teary eyed.
In the spring of 2006, Kyle recorded his debut album "A Different Shade of Blues." Comprised of all original acoustic blues songs, this album is a very good representation of what Kyle can reproduce live in his shows. Most who have heard the album have said that it contains a very peaceful and soothing element which any listener can enjoy and identify with. Although Kyle is only 19 years old, he is very mature for his age and looks forward to having a long life of performing music and writing songs.
