HiSToRY

The group is named KLaRK NoVa after a typewriter that comes to life, from the movie Naked Lunch by David Cronenberg.

Actually all group members have known each other since ever and have been friends like forever. Each of them has been involved in different music projects for years. Their uncompromising love for free-spirited live music and performance, tough-minded creativity and the desire to raise a challenging project finally brought them together. One thing led to another and the group was formed in 2003 in Aachen when the singer Hanz Simons and the bassist Sasha Sirovica decided that it was high time to make some off-key noise. The idea of making high-flying fuss convinced Christian Schmalohr, Stefan Raso and Thomas Karolzyk immediately.
The boys got together, caught fire and rented a practice room. After a few sessions it became obvious that something extraordinary splendorous was about to emerge.
More sessions followed and the abstract became concrete and personal. With Lumberjack the group created its first song and a distinct tendency to inconvenience. The decision to make the never-ending mainstream boredom of verse/ chorus/ verse history, has become a silent agreement between the group members. In 2004 KLaRK NoVa recorded a self-indulgent 10-track demo. Several gigs across Germany followed and step by step the group developed their characteristic fuck-you-all-we-just-want-to make-really-good-music attitude. KLaRK NoVas gigs are famous for their whimsical mind-blowing impact on the audience.

STYLe

KLaRK NoVa can be best defined as unpredictable.
At first glance, blending and exhaustively penetrating different musical genres against all odds, seems to be the core intention.
But with the deliberately extensive compositions merging into spastic cold-turkey breakouts combined with a wide variety of vocal styles, it is more than just cycling through metal, jazz, funk, soul, rock, pop and blues. It is somewhat zappaesque wickedly charming magic. Hanz Simmons shrieks, shouts, cries, raises, jostles, beats and then caresses the chancing melodies with his exceptional voice.
In fact all in all it is a prostration and a love letter to the sound itself.
