kitefighting is Loryn, and Loryn is kitefighting. Loryn sang lead and played guitar in the Atlanta power-pop-punk band Two Week Notice until its demise in 2003. Without a band to front, Loryn all but abandoned the stage and delved into a year-long study of some of her favorite songwriters. While listening to Elliott Smith, Simon and Garfunkel, Ted Leo, The Magnetic Fields, Carly Simon and The Decemberists, Loryn began composing a new breed of pop-infused heartbreak ballads. Eventually she could hide from the microphone no longer. Here are the results: rough, raw, live, and unaltered (until she can pay for studio time to make proper recordings, that is). Go ahead, listen and cry sweet tears of joy.
