Ancient Iranians believed that a month has 30 mansions and each night the moon resides in one of them. The 26th mansion was named Kahtmayan. After Arabs entrance to Iran, the name of moon’s mansions were changed. Only Kahtmayan remained as it was, while an Arabian month has one night less than the Iranian’s, there was no substitute for Kahtmayan. Influenced by elements of oriental melodies with dark themes, the main idea of Kahtmayan music was formed around 1995. Themes that basically have several impressive specifications, which are effected by atmospheres such as night, desert and specially mysterious and magical world of legends. During 1999 to 2000, the track “Believe” was composed and arranged for a rock quartet based on Progressive Metal Music’s style. In summer 2002 the tracks in Progressive Metal style were ready (composed) but as there was no organized band formed and due to Homayoon’s cooperation with EXIR, the project of performing these tracks was stopped. Soon after EXIR’s concert, Ali Khodadoust (keyboardist), Khaled Sanadzadeh (drummer) and Ardavan Anzabipour (bassist) joined Homayoon. In January 2003 this team work led to forming of Kahtmayan Band and its official registration with Homayoon as the leader. Afterwards the band’s practices were followed up seriously for the the first live performance, named “Choose Your Progress”. During the practices, some of Kahtmayan main melodies were chosen by a group of English filmmakers for the soundtrack of a documentary film about Iran and a contract was signed with them in this regards. This case made the band to decide on following up the main music project of Kahtmayan formed on a completely different orchestration, soon after their coming concert. The first official concert of Kahtmayan “Choose Your Progress” was successfully performed in Farabi Hall, Tehran in April 2003. Kahtmayan composed some new tracks in continuation of their activities in Progressive Metal style, which made an interesting collection for their 1st Album. Also in December 2003 after constant efforts, Kahtmayan performed its 2nd concert “Virtual Existence” in Farabi Hall, Tehran for 6 nights which was faced with great entertainment by metal fans. At the moment, Kahtmayan is seriously involved in composing its main musical (oriental) themes with vocal, besides recording the Album “Virtual Existence” in Bam Ahang Studios, Tehran.
