JUDAS PRIEST....

Some say Sabbath, some say Zeppelin, but if any band truly is the undisputed godfather of !METAL!, it is no other than the band that broke all laws when it came to rock 'n' roll, Judas Priest! In an era that was saturated with all things blues rock, Priest stepped on the scene to stake clear claim as the hardest of their time. That being said, I have nothing against the blues rock bands that kicked major ass in paving the way for metal music; bands like the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, and the Animals, but Judas, along with Black Sabbath, took it to a "whole'nother" level.

And it ALL starts with Rob Halford. His transcendent voice evokes the sound of a chorus of evil minions, carrolling in a vacant town...Or at least, that's the feeling I get when I hear his soaring, screaming vocals that somehow manage to sustain perfect pitch. The thing that impressed me most about Halford and the other elite singers in metal, Bach, Cornell, Coverdale, Plant and Ozzy, is their ability to actually sing and carry a captivating melody, which is a completely lost art nowadays, in the screamo/hardcore/post-whatever the f*ck genres where a singer's actually ability to sing has little to nothing to do with talent, but with how willing one is to damage one's vocal cords. I respect what their doing, but I definitely miss the sound of a good melody carried out by a talented vocalist.

The first time I heard Priest, I didn't know whether to be scared or collapse in ecstasy. I was blown away by the intricate guitar interplay, which only grew as the years passed, the stellar rhythm section, and polished song compositions, that would lay the blueprint for the classic metal sound that bands from Whitesnake to Skid Row, would later employ.

At any rate, this is a TRIBUTE PROFILE, created to honor one of the best metal bands of all-time.
