John Scott (aka J Skillz) is a fresh face in rap hailing from the west side of Decatur, IL where he was born and raised. His influences range greatly from Lil' Bow Wow, to Shaquille O'Neal (mostly for his height), all the way to Wesley Willis. He may look like a "white guy" but J Skillz is straight from the hood. "Growing up near crack alley taught me a lot growing up," he said in a recent interview with Blender, "you learn quick who you can trust--and that usually means no one but yourself."
Two years ago John got caught up on the wrong end of a gang war and was stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver. The doctors performed emergency medical surgery and gave him only a 20% chance to live through the night, but he stands before you today as a testament to his will to survive. John vowed the day he awoke from his coma to devote his life to music and become a role model for kids growing up in the street.
John is currently in the studio working on his latest CD entitled "Ethnomusicology" which will be released on May 5th, however you can get a SNEAK PEAK of the singles "The Way She Moves" and "The World's Greatest MC" exclusively here on PureVolume.
