WHO'S THIS AVERAGE JOE?.
I'm just a music-loving kid who loves to write and play for anyone, anywhere - from curbside performances to concert halls in London, if there are ears that'll listen, I will gladly play. Like most of us, I have been singing since before I can remember, (add half a sentence here about how long you've been playing guitar, if you ever played any other instrument, ie "after spending some time on piano, i started playing guitar two years ago...etc) I started college at Miami University in Ohio, but after trying out a life of college academia, music grew beyond the menial daily shower singing into a much bigger part of my life. Music was like a monkey on my back that I just couldn't shake off. Songwriting found its way back into my heart and soul, along with my every day life, I was captivated with cutesy one-liners, preoccupied with rhymes, and transformed into a starry-eyed observer of the world and people around me. Left alone to my imaginings and the everyday adventure of creating the perfect song, inevitably, my college study habits were "refocused." Eventually I realized that there was a full out war waging between academia and music, and that I would never get my calculus homework done unless I got my head clear. Thus, instead of ignoring my lyrical musings, I came up with creative excuses to continually jot down lyrics day-after-day, neglecting my honors program and pursuing something I felt was more true to myself. The clash between school and music led me back home to Columbus, Ohio, to pour my heart into music full-time, striving to fit together the perfect words, rhythm, and melody.
I believe in music that speaks to the soul, written by those whose souls have been stirred by a beautiful melody. From what I have experienced, soul stirrings can soon become string strummings, if you allow them to express themselves.
That is pretty much why I am here: to learn, to grow, to inspire, and to connect with others who share love for expression through art, especially by means of music of any kind. The internet provides us with wonderful means of art distribution; we have the ability to search an entire town, an entire city for music that fits our interest without moving an inch. Some might worry that the practice of being on your computer for hours searching for that perfect song could cause the classic "stomach swelling sydrome" or "zombie effect" due to the countless hours of eye-to-screen contact. Don't be alarmed; this is common. Music is enticing. I endorse eating a balanced diet and taking regular walks through the park, but I would never dare to hold anyone back from the journey of finding and experiencing the perfect song.
A fair warning -- once you have experienced the richness of a music written from heart and soul, you may never be able to drive down the street and listen contently to a mainstream melody again. There may come a point where the musical norm will not satisfy, and you will find yourself searching parts of town you never knew existed, sitting next to people of all shapes, smells, and sizes, in coffee shops with hundreds of different drinks you have never tasted, craving a fresh, real sound. My desire is to put a new song in your head and a spring in your step. Allow me to introduce you to a world of music unlike anything you have ever experienced. (edit by D Ford.)

Hey guys!.
I'm going to be plain and simple. Within the next few months a LOT of change will be going on. I'll be buying some gear to finally record on a regular-basis, but i'll need some devotion for promotion.
You're job: Tell your friends and buddies who you think it would be fun to do hilarious and bold things for the sake of music. That is, people who enjoy being a little rebellious but also have a heart for helping guys like me make a career with music. Are you thinking of people? .. Yes them. Get them excited to do some fun things to help me, a developing indie artist, get the word out about music.
Tell them to add me on the 'my band' application on facebook or send me an email. In early June i'll be setting up meetings at the hideouts of our choosing so we can get together in person and talk about underground promotion. I've got some hilarious ideas of things do .. but i'll need more of them, and i'll need help executing some of these promotional feats! ..
I'll let you know when and where the first official street team meeting will be. As well as the whereabouts. But for now, spark some interest among your music-loving buddies :)

Subject: RE: Meaning of "Forget How I Feel"
To: joey_hendrickson@hotmail.com
Joe(y),
Here where my thoughts as I looked for how this song could be related to the Lord. I couple things don't fit into it, but majority does.
* You broke my senses, made me ill --( "you broke my senses" -- I began to think differently / how people see things differently through God's eyes when they accept the Lord. "Made me ill" -- I was sick about the way I had acted/behaved; ashamed, how could I have been so wrong? my conscious came to life. Like Adam and Eve in the garden; right away after they ate the apple etc.)
* Took away the feelings I wanted to feel -- (like how people return to their selfish/worldly/sinful nature ways of the flesh even though they know it is wrong. So basically striping of sinful nature/ self love etc.
* But now I'm ready to take you on -- (Now I am ready to take you up on your offer (God's free gift), or I'm ready to turn to you/ follow you/ surrender to you).
* Take you on alone -- (Only you Lord, I'm going to turn from my sinful ways; I'm not going back to who I was before you)
* You Crept up beside / waited till I wasn't looking -- (The word, "waited" doesn’t apply, but the rest of it does. God is knocking at the door of our hearts / sometimes people aren’t even looking for God when they find Him it was unexpected. You know what I mean). (*but of course sometimes people are looking/searching for God when they find him).
* Then struck me with your heart of love -- (self explanatory; prodigal son for example; again you are familiar with what I mean).
* Thought I'd found the one, that I / That I'd been dreaming of -- (I was in love (with the Lord), the word "thought" is off, because it is more of a "knew")
* But these Words can, cannot express the feelings for you -- (people often cannot put their emotions/feeling they have for the Lord; for example I can not put into words how much I am in love with the Lord--it's something words cannot describe).
* And these words, these simple words / Cannot explain, the pain I’m going through -- walking with the Lord isn't always easy we experience pain from different trials/struggles that we go through).
* How do I find the way out now? -- ( maybe this person has fallen, or they realize that they are in over his/her head; I'm in too deep; turned away from God now I realize my mistake.
* If it's hidden behind you -- (You know the way out; you hold the answer).
* How do I escape If I can't / I can't get over you -- (this is like a realization; How can I get the answer if I don’t turn back to you (sort of like "oh the solution is to turn back to you, you will help me) --if you get my drift).
* these Words can,
cannot express the feelings for you
And these words, these simple words
Cannot explain the pain, the pain I’m going through ----
(REPEAT)
How do I find the way out now?
If it's hidden behind you
How do I escape If I can't
I can't get over you
Now this is where is just kind of gets lost. There is a way to somewhat tie it in to the whole "spiritual view" but it doesn’t really relate to the rest of the translation.
* We had everything / but you had to go and throw it all away -- (This could be God talking to man; like "why did you turn away from me")
* And now I'll take this love / I'll take your fake false love / And forget how I feel today. --- (this could be the man who is angry with God, who is turning away from God, one could even go as far as to give an example like : someone that this man really loved died and he is angry with God, because he doesn’t understand why God did that to him.)
Thanks for listening!

#1 Why do you feel compelled to create music?
I discussed this exact thing with an old friend on the phone recently. As I told him, this may sound sappy, but it's very true. I want to create music because it is a pure form of expression that is almost unexplainable. There's something beautiful and undiscovered, uncharted, and outside the realms of mathematical equations that guides impact through expression, and effectiveness of the development of self. You see it around you everyday -- people drawn to the beauties of melodies. But why? Is it mere aesthetic enjoyment that glues a set of headphones on the ears of teen culture, that evokes a man to turn on classical composition while taking a glass of wine? Music has a firm hold on the world, whether it's industry is lucrative or not, a hold that is mysterious in its conception, a hold that if understood and captured could be meaningful and applicable to other realms of living. I want to create music because I want to master creating, and doing so, better my abilities to live and interact, having a knowledge and understanding of the forces of our world that go outside scientific explanation.
#2 From where do you draw inspiration?
My inspiration to live comes from joy which derives from hope. (Proverbs 4:22) My inspiration to write and sing, to pursue music, comes from my desire to impact others by the realness that music can communicate.
#3 Where are you hoping your music to take you?
I moved back to Columbus to do music full-time, leaving behind the academically prestigious environment I had worked my entire high school career to achieve. I found that once I had finally achieved my academic goals, the goals I had revolved around never really matched my desires. I didn't really want it. I wanted to embrace music and had been distracting myself with academic success throughout high school so that I didn't have to face my love for music. So to answer the question, I will put all of the effort and energy I had pumped into academia into music and give God control of the rest. It's less about where music will take me and more about having the courage to go for the sake of music.
#4 Is there a specific routine that you use while song writing?
Yes, there many routines / cycles I go through and it's all about feeling and determining which to use at the right time.
To clarify, sometimes I need inspiration from outward experiences. (Have you seen the movie, "Music and Lyrics"? .. Drew Barrymore explains to Hugh Grant that sometimes it's best to get out and walk the streets .. "to see things, hear things" .. to get inspiration for the lyrics.) So, my inspiration may come from walking campus, getting on a bus and going to a part of town i've never been, watching people, connecting memories with the current situation, looking at things with different perspective, being imaginative .. etc.
I don't want to impose my own technique on others, but another method of song writing is creating a scene through imagination. That is, putting yourself in someone else's shoes and feeling how they would feel, imagining the outcome the way you would want it to happen. This method I love because it gives me complete creative control to alter the environment in whatever fairy-tale, conflicting, humorous, or sardonic way I wish. So whether I'm writing about love, hate, life, or death, the outcome is in my hands.
#5 Do you have any advice for people that plan to pursue a career in music?
First and foremost, do not for a second assume that is will be "easy." I've met many people who think that because the internet is a rising, promotional tool that all they have to do is sound pretty and money will be rolling in. If this is you, don't quit your day job. A lifestyle around music takes more than clean teeth and clear vocals.

hey all you's.
writing for the next 'hard-copy serenade' is now 95% complete!. i'm working hard.
since i left school, though i'm proud to have discovered the online alternative for college to suffice financially, it's completely distracting.
i've learned it's school or music; there's really no happy medium.
so i'll be taking school off till fall to get to finalize the studio, record, and delve further into the time-consuming world of songwriting. can't wait :)
for now, be on the look out for new songs. the cd will have fully 'orchestrated' tracks .. some 10 - 12 songs for your listening enjoyment. i'll post em when i got em.
till then, catch a show .. or if you're in anywhere near columbus, listen hard, you may catch the undertones of some grammy-worthy shower singing..
more questions?. email/facebook.
peace.

street team numbers are rising .. but there's still time to be apart of the inner circle!.
you must be--
1) a liker, lover, or enthusiast of independent music, acoustic music, jazz music, or at best, joey hendrickson music.
2) stealthy and secretive. we do missions. you must have stealth and finesse to complete some of the missions. you must keep your cool. you must be able to talk your way out of an awkward phone call or have the will power to not break the staple gun when the freaking staples wont pop out of the little slot at the end! .. you gotta keep your cool.
3) you have to be open. some missions require you leaving the corner in your bedroom in order to talk to people and spread news to friends. do you have friends? .. if not, the street team will give you something to talk about so you can make them. again, i scratch your back, you scratch mine.
4) know your gifts and be willing to develop them and put them to use. the more talented, the better.
5) enjoy friendly competition. most missions will have perks/winners who can achieve free prizes due to their work/promotional habits. do you have what it takes to be #1 on the joey hendrickson street team. if you don't, you can still join. but it might make you mad.
TO SIGN UP FOR THE STREET TEAM AND BEGIN RECEIVING MISSIONS EMAIL ME @:
joeyhendrickson@hotmail.com or leave a comment on the purevolume page.
