JET BLACK STEREO
-The Story-
Starting as an idea brewing in the minds of five best friends grown musicians, Jet Black Stereo has evolved into a dedicated rampage of songs, meant to be heard by thousands. Toronto, Canada has no doubt been the birthplace to a number of talented musicians, but no band like Jet Black Stereo.
Growing up with each other was the easy part, even when we were in different bands with completely different sounds and scenes; we always found time to spend on the side. Whether it was writing songs or just hanging out, it was really important to us to keep close ties with each other be it whatever we weâre involved with at the time. If you really wanted to, you could easily separate us, some by style, some by personality, and some by the decades of music that we have been inspired by.
âJust look at Dano and youâll think the guy just stepped out of a time machine that had destination 1985 written on it. Unfortunately this could be good and bad. âGoodâ in the sense that he looks different from every other dude but âBadâ in the sense that he would actually listen to 80âs music.â-Nazzy
Nazzy and Dano have the sort of love-hate relationship where thereâs always two sides to the story.
âNazzy is appropriately nick-named âThe Celebrationâ because heâs the type of clown that will do anything at any extent for a laugh. I donât mind it cause Iâm usually right there with him. However, I am a little worried about his wardrobe.â âDano
Everyone knows thereâs that line between a motivator and a control freak, GM always knows where the line is and how far to one side heâs on at all times.
âG.M. Gianmike? More like General Manager in the sense that heâs the guy who maintains as much order possible in the posse. At the same time he knows when to screw around and make sure the rest of the band is having a laugh. A real ladies man as well.â âMonti
Yet as crazy as times get, thereâs always one guy you can always count on to step it up in every situation.
âMonti is by far the most creative person when it comes to outdoing an old song with a new one. His energy on stage plays an important role when trying to keep the viewers interested and wanting more, and trust me, they always come back for more. Sometimes not just for the musicâ-Danny t
Thereâs always someone thatâll have their hand in everything the band does or is interested in doing, and that someone for Jet Black Stereo is Danny T.
âHeâs got a passion for words and an intensity about his voice that I just canât describe. Just when I think Iâve figured him out heâll open my eyes to a whole new side of things. As much as they say I keep the guys in line, itâs Danny T that keeps me focused. Itâs like were playing a game, and one of us is always trying to out due the other.â- GM
For the 6 months that Jet Black Stereo has been together writing music and performing those songs live, theyâve done the same amount of work that takes some bands years to accomplish. A following that has tripled twice since their first song was posted on their myspace, an ever growing interest from labels, booking agencies, and management. The guys also have a lot of support from a number of different charities and organization that they support such as Invisible Children and WWF. Lyrically, our songs bring up so many different issues that itâs hard to keep track on what weâve covered and whatâs left to cover. The lyrics we write are always dressed around catchy guitar riffs, sing along melodies and synth sounds that will either bring you back to the 80âs or shoot you right back up to the present.
"Comprised of a sound that could be the birth child if Thrice ever hooked up with My Chemical Romance, new born rock act 'Jet Black Stereo' put on a show that is sure to make you move and sing along. With their extremely catchy tunes and their twist on a new wave rock sound, these guys are sure to win over fans at every show they play." - WGTS Magazine.
With everything happening in the industry today, from so many different bands and so many different sounds, the guys in Jet Black Stereo have done something that almost seems impossible to some. The buzz has started.

Jet Black Stereo - Horseshoe Tavern - March 18th 2008
Out of all the bands that played at the Horseshoe on March 18th, it was Jet Black Stereo that showed the most promise. The band presented those casual music happy patrons with an interesting harmonic mix – a sound quality that managed to stand out and force attention on itself in an Indie scene where ninety percent of the bands sound the same. The originality of Jet Black Stereo’s sounds could be attributed to the, at times, lulling piano melodies that tended to weave in and out of the almost desperate insistence of the guitars, but in reality it is much, much more than that.
Coming from five altogether different musical backgrounds, the Vaughn-based members of Jet Black Stereo can happily boast their lack of musical discrimination as well as their desire to make "good music." However, the most startling thing about this band is that as far as most bands go, Jet Black Stereo hasn’t even reached its "toddling to years." Formed a mere 7 months ago, the band is literally a baby when compared to the relative ages of those other bands that rotated through the venue.
Presenting a powerful image and an even more powerful sound, the entity that is Jet Black Stereo was barely contained by the Horseshoe’s tiny stage. The dual power of two stunningly strong vocalists is almost too much at some points – these boys literally bleed music – but this is the kind of overdose that any rock/pop-punk/alternative junkie would happily dive into. The band also refuses to shy away from experimenting within their "as of yet to be fully defined" genre.
Burlesque music has been around since the 1950s, once finding home in dusky bars and girls with flapper dresses and flimsy head-scarves, but recently bands (both in and out of the mainstream) have been peppering their music with that good-old lilting piano – see The Dresden Dolls or Panic! At the Disco – and Jet Black Stereo doesn’t hesitate to dip their combat-boot or converse-clad feet into that that pool of creativity as well. The song is, fittingly enough, called "Not So Burlesque" and it opens with the age-old piano intro that screams saloons, bar-maids and burlesque dancers, and while thankfully not overdone, the song floats along in a rather lilting and almost hauntingly familiar manner before diving down into those heavy guitar riffs that resonate throughout your rib-cage and find a comfortable home at the base of your spine.
When asked to describe and/or define their band, founding members Dan and GM sort of look at each other before shrugging in a rather helpless manner. "We’re just a bunch of guys that get together to make music that we like…" and really, the fact that the band loves the music they play is not only extremely apparent in their live performances, but it transfers rather insistently to the crowd as well.
Maybe Jet Black Stereo is much too young an entity to really be able to define itself as a band, and maybe it’s this lack of definition that allows them to blur the lines between rock, alternative and burlesque but one thing that you can most definitely be sure about, it that Jet Black Stereo is a band to keep your eyes (and ears) on.
The band has been making plans to release an album sometime in the near future, but until then, they will continue playing venues that sometimes seem almost too small to contain them.

Hey guys,
Some of you might notice that we've added some pretty graphic banners on what's going on right now in the world of illegal hunting and trade of animals. We've always been big big supporters of the issue and we just want try and make the situation known to those who aren't aware of what's happening in certain area's of the world.
I'll sum it up real quick for those who aren't familiar with what's goin on and are interested in finding out.
Basically, both Tiger and Shark populations have dropped 96% in the past decade due to illegal hunting and fishing. Tiger parts are sold on the black market in certain countries and used in certain pharmacutical medicines. The Shark fin industry is a billion dollar industry and 100 million sharks are being killed each year for their fins. Fins are considered a delecacy in some cultures and are used for Shark Fin soup.
Sharks play the most important role when it comes to balancing the oceans ecosystems, which also effects the ecosystems on land (and us, humans).
It's Simple, Tigers and Sharks and on the verge of mass extinction, and we can't let that happen.
There are many more species that are endangered for similar reasons. Tigers and Sharks were the only two mentioned here because it hits home with both Danny T and Dano in our band. It's tough to see footage or pictures of what some people might do to your favourite animal.
So please:
Visit
Save the Tiger Fund or the
Sea Shepherd Conservation Sociey
to find out more information on how you can help stop the illegal trade of animals.
Thanks so much,
Cheers and lots of love
