jerry west
the jerry west story began in waxahachie, texas in the summer of 1960. growing up in a very musical family and showing a strong interest early on, jerry began formally studying music at the age of nine. at fifteen, he borrowed his younger brother's cort acoustic guitar and began teaching himself by studying old piano scale books and playing peter frampton and ted nugent by ear. throughout high school and college, jerry played a range of styles in jazz and rock bands. he earned a bachelor of music degree in music education from oklahoma baptist university, as well as a master of music pedagogy and performance from oklahoma state university. in his 22 year teaching career, he has directed multiple state champion ensembles and been instrumental in the development of the digimet classroom metronome. jerry also has two beautiful women in his life, his wife, robin, and daughter, lauren.
today, jerry is an active writer, arranger, and player. his beloved frankenaxe is an ibanez strat style electric with a custom neck and electronics. he seldom puts it down. he cites steve vai, joe satriani, eric johnson, and monte montgomery to be among his most powerful influences. he enjoys two great musical passions, "teaching students and playing guitar."
