Irvine is an independent rock band formed in 2006 by brothers Bob and Chris Thorpe. The following year the band recorded their debut EP, 'This Is Tomorrow', which gained interest from both fans and media. Since then the band has spent much of their time performing, writing and recording in London, England.
For Irvine the last three years of work have led them to the sound of their new EP 'Raising Weathered Sails', which captures the essence of the band's musical philosophy of creating powerful original music that is easily accessible yet still maintains a high degree of artistic integrity. The band's emphasis on strong melody is balanced by the progressive undertones in their arrangements, rhythms and chord structures, drawing on influences ranging from artists such as Jimmy Eat World and Jimi Hendrix to Cold War Kids and Death Cab For Cutie. The intensity of Irvine's live performances is a testament to this careful balance, constantly swaying between the beautifully melodic and the chaotically abstract.
'Raising Weathered Sails' encapsulates the energy of Irvine's live performance and reveals a band on a mission to create something real, raw, and lasting with a blatant disregard for the diluted, digitally perfected mould of modern rock. With songs that are as memorable as they are intricate, voiced through sincere, unassuming lyrics, Irvine has developed a sound that cannot be ignored. In an industry obsessed with producing and selling little more than a fashionable image through disposable music, Irvine seeks to stand out as a band for those who truly love to listen.
The past year has seen the band complete their new line-up with Doug Gass on bass as they have spent much of the year recording their debut album, to be released early next year. The band has received airplay on various student and community radio, and their infectious track 'The Illusion of Dreaming' has been included as a single on the international compilation 'Riot on Sunset Vol.17' by independent rock label 272 Records in Hollywood, California. The compilation which features bands from all around the United States, Europe and Australia has been distributed to 25 radio stations across America and is available for purchase from Amazon and AmoebaMusic, as well as the band's websites www.irvineband.com and www.myspace.com/irvineband.
