The story of IN-SANE begins in late 1997 when Shaggie, Mato and Mateja start the band as a school romance towards punk rock and hardcore. Later that year Dario joins the band as the second guitarist and the band starts to slowly gain recognition as well as some musical experience. In the year 1998 IN-SANE are joined by the fifth member on the bass and the line up is complete. First shows were played that year and very soon the name starts to mean something to the kids behind the instruments.
In 1999 they record the first 5 track demo which was pretty shitty, but hey, they were just kids with an attitude and we loved the music. Soon after the demo was recorded the bass guitarist left the band and Mateja grabbed the bass guitar and remains there until today. IN-SANE started to play as many shows as only possible around Slovenia at this time and started to be a part of the local scene, helping out with the local youth club. In 2000 they parted ways with their long time singer Mato, but none the less remained close friends and Mato is still a part of the IN-SANE crew, or even better family, taking care of merchandise and the van, as well as going on tours and being a friend. IN-SANE has been a trio ever since. The line up is still unchanged: Dario (guitar, vox), Mateja (bass, vox) and Shaggie (drums and stick ass sticker). In the next couple of years they recorded countless demos as well as an LP CD which was never published called 'CEREAL KILLERS', played loads of shows around Slovenia and their first shows abroad in Austria and Croatia. In 2002 they were invited to take part in the annual EUROPEAN MUSIC MEETING in Graz, Austria where they met bands from all over Europe, enjoyed and learned a lot of things concerning music and arts and off course the D.I.Y. ethics which they still love and live by. They also met the brain Michi Merkusch who recorded their first EP called 'Revenge Against Boredom' which was published D.I.Y. in October 2002 and sold in 150 copies and is sold out. The band started playing more and more shows around Slovenia and abroad, playing in countries such as Austria and Croatia. 2003 saw IN-SANE as a mature (but still a very young band â the members have been 17 and 18 years old) band and on the EMM2003 people couldnât believe the progress the band has made. So equipped with a CD and lots of energy they started 2004 with lots of shows all around Slovenia, Austria, Croatia,⦠In-Sane booked their first tour completely D.I.Y. in autumn 2004 and played shows in countries such as Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany and Lithuania. In early 2005 In-Sane kicked off with a short 4 day ITALIAN TOUR, which was followed with lots of shows in Slovenia, Croatia and Austria. And at the end of 2005 they toured for 14 days again, booking their shows and putting their music out completely by themselves⦠the November euro tour 2005 took them to places like: Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Germany. At that time they were also taking part in the Slovenian punkrock scene being one of the protagonists of the GOT PUNK? #2 tour, together with fellow bands and friends Golliwog and Harry. The tour caravan had played ten shows in Slovenia and the bands got a lot of attention. In the beginning of 2006 a short Balkans tour, where they played shows in Belgrade (Serbia), Bosnia and Hercegovina and Macedonia. They were also doing a lot of shows for bands and friends from all over Europe in their hometown club MD GROM. In the
end of April 2006 the boys did a one week Italian/French tour and had a great time and the peoples response was also awesome. At that time they were also recording their first official full length in Graz, Austria together with Tom Zwanzger the guitarist of the Austrian skardcorepunk heroes ANTIMANIAX. The album called âKeeping Ourselves Close To Our Heartsâ was released in the end of June 2006, off course it was D.I.Y. The release party was followed by loads of shows around Slovenia and surrounding countries and at the end of 2006 with another Eastern Europe Tour, where IN-SANE played Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland. In all these years IN-SANE have also become very active in the Slovenian scene and are promoting a lot of shows, booking shows for friend bands and bands they like, loving the scene in their region. They also book tours for bands from all over Europe and are glad to be able to help the scene grow bigger and stronger and more friendly. Thatâs why they decided to create a platform for bands called INSANE BOOKING and PROMOTION, where they help out young bands and support them. Soon they will also finish building their own little studio in which they hope many young and talented bands from Slovenia and abroad will be able to do their first steps in the scene. Thatâs the true meaning of the word hardcore for IN-SANE, mutual help and support. IN-SANE are not just three people in a band, the boys are passionate about music, politics and the scene. They love it, sometimes they hate it, but none the less they are a part of it and they want it to stay that way. IN-SANE love D.I.Y., love hardcore and the people involved in it and are thankful that they can be a part of a scene that is hardcore/punk.![]()
