Creating The Band Immortal Purpose

blog post
The band started with my friend Richard and I. We both play the electric guitar with passion and lots of practice. My Name is Patrick Oliver. It all started when my sister brought her future husband Brian (married now) over to my house on my 15th birthday and he brought his two guitars and an amp. I was so into it I couldnt put the guitar down because I was picking up some of the basic ways to play very fast. When he left my house I thought that was it I would never get to play electric guitar again, but I started playing on my dad's acoustic guitar for a couple of months and learned a lot of chords that were hard to get used to and I failed countless times but I never stoped playing. Little by little I started getting better and better at it with the help of my dad because it seems like he knows all there is on how to play the guitar very well, and he has been playing since his teen years and he is now teaching me. There came a time a couple months back when I found a "Gibson Les Paul" and an amp all stored away in his closet, but little did he know he made a mistake letting me know that he had all that, but he did make a mistake because it gets in the way of most of my responsibilities like homeschooling and chores. But he mostly regrets the fact that I put playing guitar and social time above everything else, and I'm trying my best to make music come last. Even though it is important to me, I still have to obey my parents. We named our band Immortal Purpose, and the reason we call it that is because it stands for what Jesus did for us all on the cross, and it means that He came to die for us so that we can live forever. With our sins bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ and all who believe, He is our Purpose for striving to be Immortal. The main purpose for our band is to praise Him with this gift He gave us. In other words the best we know how "heavy metal". God has given me and my friend a gift so we can glorify Him and we aim to do that exactly. I'm not great at it but I'm not giving up; I'm going to keep playing for Him and I will get better with lots more practice. The way I met Richard was by my dad and his dad, and they have been friends for many years because they worked at the same job for many years and they became friends. Also at Chapel Hill Baptist Church I found the love of my life, Kayla Smith, and she is my girlfriend and has been for almost 8 months now!!! But that does it you know all there is to know.
Keep praising the Lord with Christian Rock!!!!!
~Patrick M. Oliver

Hey my name is Richard Halstead. For me the making of Immortal purpose started March of 2005. I had always wanted to play guitar because my dad played. I picked up an acoustic and gave up shortly after. When I got my electric I began picking up the techniques quickly. My friends and my family helped me with some more chords and strumming techniques. Then I decided my passion was for music, Now, when I first started playing, I had no desire for metal. I only started listening and playing metal about a year ago. My father used to be in a band that played very well, and in turn, he knows riffs from Metallica, AC/DC and such. He's taught me that stuff too, which I love to play all the time. I moved here from Colorado, where I left friends and a girlfriend, Cassie MacLearn, 2 and a half years going strong together. And even though we are so far apart, we still have faith in the relationship! We plan on being together until we graduate, and I can go back there and get her and marry her. I love her very, very much. I lived here before I moved to Colorado too, and that was when I first met Patrick. When I moved here all I was thinking was, "I want to start a band!", so I began thinking about it and contacting people. When I first contacted Patrick because I heard that he could play drums, I originally planned on him playing drums. However, when he began playing guitar and I was listening, I noticed that his passion was to play electric guitar. I also realized that's where I wanted him to be too. So, we began discussing the "what-if"'s of the band. We began talking about how we could find more members and how we would have to make a website and buy sound equipment. When we decided that we definitely wanted this to become a band, we both were excited and "on fire for God" as we put it and "on fire" for music that praises him. We do not condemn secular music because we believe that God gave them the talent to make their music too. We are without a doubt a Christian band, and we do not intend to cover that up. However, we will not limit our audience to Christians. We don't think our music should turn people off just because we claim to be a Christian band. We are better than NO ONE. Being a Christian doesn't make us better than anyone. We want to get the message out there to the lost souls in the world too. We can guarantee that half of our audience will be non-Christians. If we get offered a gig at a bar or something, we will consider it heavily. We won't just turn it down. We will play wherever we can reach people. Like I said, we will play for anyone. We plan to reach the lost souls of the world through our music, not reach the people who are already Christians. We want our listeners to be Christians too, but we also wish to focus on the lost. "Immortal Purpose" is about how God is our purpose for striving to become Immortal. Jesus died for us so that we can live for Him! I'm excited about that! I want my music to reach people and let them know that Jesus died for them too! We will have our other members post on this blog as we get them. We are still in the works though! Contact me at tnimpact@hotmail.com or Patrick at kkpatpat4ever@hotmail.com if you are in the Jackson/Milan/Humboldt/Alamo Tennessee area and would like to play in the band, or if you are anywhere else in the world and just want to talk to us! For band applications, email me at tnimpact@hotmail.com. Ask for a band application, and I will send you a short application that will ask you a few simple questions. For anything else, email either of us! We would love to hear from you and to get some feedback about our music. Constructive criticism is appreciated! We look forward to this band growing in Christ and progressing throughout the years. I will have the band website up soon, but my father and I haven't started on it yet. It will not be long. We will keep you updated periodically with anouncements, gig times, and new band members.
Love in Christ,
~Richard Halstead
