ARTIST BIO
It is fair to say that IJ Quinn is a Young Soul at heart. Born and raised on a farm in the small eastern North Carolina town of Warsaw, IJ developed a musical style that draws comparisons to the R&B/Soul greats he grew up listening to (Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, EW&F and Michael Jackson), and the leading commercial songwriters of today (Maroon 5, Adele and Bruno Mars). IJ learned piano at age three, self-taught himself the guitar at fourteen, and has been a student of pop music all of his life.
After high school, IJ was discovered by his manager through Myspace. Shortly after, he moved to Chicago to begin his musical endeavors with the help of his newly-formed team. IJ started recording his debut full-length LP, When They Want It The Most, in the winter of 2008. The record was produced by former Dovetail Joint singer/guitarist, Chuck Gladfelter, at EQHQ Studios in Chicago.
The title track went on to be featured on an episode of the NBC, critically acclaimed drama, Friday Night Lights. IJ spent the rest of his time in the midwest playing shows and winning over fans one by one.
IJ has shared the stage with artists such as Owl City at Milwaukee's Summerfest, Ingrid Michaelson, Landon Pigg, Cris Cab, Dave Barnes, Matt White and many others.
IJ recently moved back to Wilmington, North Carolina. Since returning home, IJ has already recruited a band of well-established multi-instrumentalists: turntablist, TJ 'Chuck T' Dunn, and drummer, Will Fassbender. Their electric live show has already rapidly built a strong following around North Carolina, and it doesn't look like there is anything slowing them down.
IJ is currently preparing for the release of a new single, and he's asking everyone to stay #Fearless for the time being.
