Seattle, Washington is tucked away in the corner of the Pacific Northwest. It is a little off the beaten path and is often skipped on national tours. Although Seattle is considered the Mecca of the early 90âs grunge movement and is still often associated with that today, I DECLARE WAR is ready to change those preconceptions and prove that the Northwest can bring the heavy.
With their own brand of death metal infused with traditional metal and hardcore, I DECLARE WAR has generated a dedicated following in the Seattle area over the past three years that is quickly spreading across the country. The combination of Jon Huberâs signature demonic vocals, intricate metal riffs and crushing breakdowns from guitarists Evan Hughes and Chris Fugate, above average bass lines from Brent Eaton, and the razor-sharp, blazing fast drumming from Randy Carpenter are what have caught the attention of fans all over the country. Itâs not only the fans who are talking either; I DECLARE WAR has shared the stage with and earned the respect of such national acts as Suicide Silence, As Blood Runs Black, and Whitechapel.
In early 2007, the band caught the eye of Compton Records owner David Compton who signed them to release their first full-length studio effort Amidst The Bloodshed. The album was released on June 12, 2007 to a very warm reception with strong sales and great reviews. Receiving an 8 out of 10 in issue #40 of Outburn Magazine, reviewer Christian Cipollini called I DECLARE WAR a âband to watch out for.â The CD was also placed on Erik Thomasâ honorable mentions for Top 10 Albums of 2007 list on MetalReview.com. Thomas also proclaimed it âthe heaviest album [he has] heard in the last few years,â deeming it heavier than higher-profile releases of the year including Suicide Silence and Whitechapel. The album continues to sell consistently at shows, on iTunes, and through the various online retailers it is available from.
Amidst The Bloodshed is only the beginning for the Seattle natives who are currently setting their sights on touring and writing for their next release. The new material showcases the progression of technical ability of all members of the band as well as increased proficiency in songwriting. After touring in 2008, I DECLARE WAR plan to release their next album in 2009 and bring the heavy to the metal masses.
