Sometimes music can hit you like a train jumping off the tracks. For those who love music, truly love it, the feeling of being "hit" is one of the greatest highs in the world. I have not been hit this hard in a very long time. In fact the last time I remember being floored like this is when I first heard Prine. To anyone who may know me, this is the best compliment I could ever pay this young man. It is a shame that the world knows "American Idols" when true talent like Ian is out there. Like I've always said, some of the best things in the world come from a holler, and while I'm not sure if Ian was raised in one, myself being raised in Breathitt County, am sure he knows them well. Thanks Ian for showing me that while the Prines of the world head into the sunset there is hope in the new day! Nov 12

How can a child write such things? Then I remember Dylan. And Mozart...it happens. His wisdom and soul comes from a place where many young men will never go and most old men have never gone. Ian has obviously felt something pure, sad, good, holy...both within him and all around him. I believe it is Truth. I believe it is again time to Listen. Janethel Smith "Roads" 1978 Nov 11
