Members: Josh Humphries, Sean O'Connor, Zach Linley, Brandon O'Connor, Matt Monferdini
While most bands choose to tour relentlessly or pepper unknown people on Myspace in order to win over fans, Kankakee, IL based band Hotter Than June lets their music speak for itself. With a fan base that stretches as far as Japan and with album reviews by German music magazines, Hotter Than June continues to expand its reaches through internet word-of-mouth exposure and performing shows mostly within the Midwest.
"We don't resort to onstage gimmicks or wacky promotions, that some bands rely on to make them seem larger than life. Usually that only results in a disappointed fan base. We use our music and performances to gain new listeners. Once someone sees us live, or hears our album, they are hooked," says front-man and vocalist Josh Humphries.
Humphries is joined in Hotter Than June by guitarist Cam Corcoran, guitarist Matt Monferdini (formerly of One Iron Records' band Feature Presentation), bassist Anthony Vieceli and drummer Brandon O'Connor. The group merges a combination of emo-rock in the vein of Dashboard Confessional with the post-hardcore sound of bands like Senses Fail, Taking Back Sunday and Thrice.
The band released their first EP, titled "Leave All the Pretty Things Alone" on Chicago's Delphine Records in early 2007. The album features the driving anthem, "Go.Fight.Win." which was also featured on Quickstar Production's compilation, "Eleventh Hour Confessions: Midwest Edition." The album was recorded over a four month span at Eclipse Studios in Normal, IL with the assistance of Erik Nelson of the INSOMNIAX. The INSOMNIAX have recorded music acts that include: Mudvayne (Epic), 3LW (Jive), B5 (Bad Boy), Fat Joe (Virgin) and Boyz II Men.
"Leave All the Pretty Things Alone" spans a creative spectrum that ranges from the hard driving opener "Go.Fight.Win" with its melodic guitar riffs and fist pumping chorus to the introspective lyrics of songs of the radio friendly "Ten and Two" and "Leave All the Pretty Things Alone." Hotter Than June has currently rejoined Nelson in the studio to record their first full-length album.
Hotter Than June has toured extensively throughout Midwest performing a combination of all-ages shows as well as entertaining college-based crowds. Their shows blend the technical skills of seasoned musicians with the showmanship of classic punk acts that tease the edge of self implosion on stage.
Hotter Than June was featured, in December of 2006, on the online music news site "The Palestra." They currently are endorsed by Knucklehead Strings.
