BIO

Hoist consists of three friends who think that third person biographies are pretentious.

A student of environmental design, a semi-pro hockey player, and a graphic designer make up our trio. We've been playing together for a few years, and friends for a few more. If our band had a birthday, you could say it was in January of 2005. Prior to the formation of Hoist, numerous projects with other friends had expired, but the three of us continued to play together because of our complimentary musical personalities and passion for making music.

Our musical roots are in piano, the first instrument each of us learned as a child. The fundamental knowledge taken from these early lessons, helped pave the way for a more in-depth understanding of other instruments, and how they work together. As a result, the three of us are competent at each other's instruments and find this gift invaluable in the songwriting process.

Our influences can largely be summed to "life"; including aurally, but often otherwise. The best stylistic description of our band has come from a past educator, who explained that our music sounds like a songwriter's song. Our primary goal is quite simple: to create music for you to listen to. We take great pleasure in making music and can only hope you will enjoy it too.
