Sometimes you look back...

blog post
So I work a "real" job now. It has it's benefits, it pays the bills, my coworkers are cool, one's in a band (check them out In Violent Times). While at said job, (I do web programming, it's real glamorous), I put on the first Minus the Bear CD. It took me back a few years to when I worked a college job, was still in school and dreamed of playing music again (Sound the Alarm had been broken up at this point).

I almost went on tour with My Hotel Year ironically enough, it was the last tour they did, and it was the one that brought Patrick into the fold. I didn't go due to my duties as a son to two parents who worked hard to put me through school and so I finished. I don't regret it at all.

So who cares right, well, I do for one, and it's my damn band blog so deal with it, the whole point being, I long for the times back then, Minus the Bear always makes me think of the winter back then very fondly, I met some really nice people through my job that I still keep in contact with, I was still an avid music fan and had yet to become to jaded. After 2 and half years working in a venue, just short of a year at a cd store and now over a decade of playing in a band I think I lose perspective of what it is about music that I love. Listening to this CD reminds me of why, it can truly transport you back to a time you remember fondly (or not) and is such an expressive form.

We haven't had a show in nearly 4 weeks and we have two coming up, and I couldn't be more excited. The Orlando one is with Immaculate Shark(formerly Vostok) who are by far my favorite all time local band, and they rank pretty highly in my national bands too. It's exciting to be playing with them again, and the second is at New World in Tampa, by far my favorite city to play with new labelmates Win Win Winter.

I guess I'm saying, we all go through periods where you wonder why, and sometimes being in a band it's a little bit more public, and I know why now. I want to be the band that takes you back to that time you saw us sweating our asses off on stage, howling at you in full force, and with all the maddening volume coming at you, all you could think about was the girl you were with, the job you just got, the general state of peace you were in, and 3 years later, maybe you pop our record on and instantly think about October at New World in 2007. When you do, drop us a line, we'd still love to hear it, even then.

I am leaving you with a list (because everyone loves lists), Top 5 albums that transport you...
Leave us a comment with your top 5.

1) Weezer - Blue Album
2) Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
3) Shiner - Starless
4) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
5) Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary

Love,
Matt - History
