The journey began in 2004 when the band came together through previous projects in the Toledo area and decided to start something new and exciting. Highland was the final product. After a couple early lineup switches the band was finalized and began work on their debut ep, "The Irony of Eminence" which was recorded at It's My Time! recordings by Rob Wagner. It was released in late 2005. The band received instant popularity around Toledo and set out for a regional east coast tour in the summer of 2006.

Highland was regularly featured on Toledo's rock station 106.5 The Zone and did promotional events for the WB (now CW). The band won the 92.5 Kiss FM Pepsi Smash, and released their single "Ode to Ellis" to appear on the 2007 Toledo Rocks! compilation cd. Later that year the band was set to begin recording new material for their follow up ep at Lava Room Recording studios in Cleveland, OH. The process was never finalized and instead was just released to the band's myspace page. Bass player Eric Lazarus left the band right before 2007 when he relocated to Florida. George Smith, a longtime friend of the band filled in the gap on bass through 2007 and Highland continued to promote themselves and their new recordings for rest of the year.

In 2008 the band decided to take some time off and returned that July to play a string of shows around Toledo and Bowling Green. In November 2008 Eric returned to the group. The old chemistry hit instantly and Highland was officially back.

Entering the year of 2009 the band already has big plans. Highland will be recording 4 new tracks in March at Paper Tiger studios in Columbus, OH that will be available for streaming and to purchase on Snocap and Amazon. Highland plans to spend 2009 playing shows and continue writing new material.
