Held Under represents the ultimate in Albany, NY area metal. Formed in February of 2001, Held Under boasts a talented five members who play metal the way it was meant to be played--thick, aggressive, unrelenting, and without rules. The resulting melee is a sound that is clearly all their own. Held Under has self-released a 5-song EP (self-titled) and a full length (Failed Existence). Musically, Held Under blend their metal influences effortlessly. Upon first listen, one can hear classic elements of bay-area thrash evoking Testament and Exodus. NY style death metal in the vein of Suffocation and Demolition Hammer then intervenes. The brutality is compounded by crushing, catchy grooves that have drawn comparisons to Diecast and Bloodlet. It's a metallic whirlwind of thrashing guitars, melodic solos, frenetic drums, and bombastic bass that's both extremely heavy, yet easily accessable for any metalhead. Lyrically, frontman Jeff Andrews spins tales of regret, misery and closure. His style is really without comparison, though one can detect influences from Carcass to Faith No More to Devin Townsend.
