Indie singer-songwriter Hailey Wojcik blends witty lyrics with unique guitar, ukulele and keyboard musings to come up with something beautiful on her newest album, Jealous Sees. Hailey's music is refreshingly original and unforgettable, with songs ranging from achingly earnest ballads about jealousy, heartbreak and feminism, to sarcastic songs about quitting dead-end jobs and getting dug like a dinosaur bone. Hailey's music has garnered national attention from the press, festivals, and college radio stations.
Her music video for "Dinosaur Bone" is currently a Featured Video on YouTube.com, handpicked by the Music Editors, and viewed by over 300,000 people in just five days. Her album Jealous Sees was one of Performing Songwriter magazines Top 12 DIY albums for January/February 2006.
In recent months, Hailey has shared the stage with national acts such as Ingrid Michaelson, and has been chosen to perform at several music conferences including the South Park Music Festival, the Midwest Music Summit and the Midpoint Music Festival. Despite her young age, Hailey already has a broad-spanning career, including airplay on over 100 radio stations across the country, including Mitch Albom's nationally syndicated radio talk show.
Currently at work on an upcoming release, her style has only matured since she released her first CD, Hairy Woodchuck at age 14. Her next two albums, Chimpanzee Politics (2001) and Girls' State (2004) were released to an ever-growing audience. Hailey has long been a fixture in the Michigan music scene, and her popularity is quickly spreading as she tours throughout the country. Hailey continues to tour and also pursues her music career in her new home, New York.

It's happening. The days are winding down before my move to New York City. Thanks to all of you well-wishers for your many well-wishes and kind words. I had a blast at the recent shows in Kazoo and Lansing--it was so great to see all of your beautiful shining faces! I am promising myself and everyone who reads this that I'll update it w/ great frequency and I'll recount for you my experiences in the new (york) city.
I'm going to jump right into booking as many shows as possible there too, so be sure and check my calendar for dates and updates.
I have a slew of new songs too that I'm really excited about! Thanks for all the feedback, those of you who got to hear some of them at my recent shows. They seem to be going over smashingly. And the strumstick is such a little ham. For more info on this cute sassy thing, check out: www.strumstick.com
And they aren't kidding when they say "no wrong notes." That's what I'm talking about.
i have one more show in MI before my move; it will be TOMORROW (Sun.) at the old smartshop in Kalamazoo at 432 E. Paterson. 8pm w/ a potluck starting at 7pm. Details on the calendar.
And I really think that's the last show I have before the move. Seriously this time. God I'm worse than Celine Dion with the "pseudo last show" fake outs.
Maybe someday I'll get my own stage at Cesar's Palace.
And on that note, there are no wrong notes. And on that note, that's all I got for now.
talk to you later
sincerely,
hailey

After much...
I'm writing again. I feel like I need to have a catheter connecting my brain to a piece of paper at all times. It's pouring. I have finally compiled a slew of new material and I'm going to be venturing back into the studio and laying down some tracks as they say. So stay tuned for info on any new releases, MP3 action, etc.

I had never played the lotto before. Never gambled. Never even set foot in a casino. I was just sitting at my computer at my job and someone behind me said, "Hey do you want in?"
"What?" I pretended I hadn't heard every word they had said about their 10-person pool of lotto hopefullness. To my surprise I then heard myself say, "suuuure" and guiltily paw through my hole-y coat pocket for enough change. I was going to go to the laundromat after work, but fuck it. $190 million dollars is at stake, split between the 10 of us I mean.
The night came and I went to a gas station after dinner, dumbly holding up my wrinkly photocopy of the lotto ticket and saying, "Do you um can I get the numbers here?" I was told to come back after 11pm at which point I visited a different gas station only to be told by the attendant that they no longer did the lotto there.
The suspense was really building now. This was it, I could tell.
I drove halfway across town to another gas station and got my print out of the winning numbers. Took a deep breath and looked.
I only had one number right. Didn't even make my $2 back or get any clean underwear out of it. I found out that NO ONE actually won it, which just seems wrong to me. I resolve never to play again.
I figure I'm saving my gambling luck for this music venture of mine. Everyone always calls the indie music biz an "investment" and it always makes me laugh. The word investment conjures visions of bank accounts, security, 401Ks. Anything but the music business. So I suppose I am a gambler.
I came to this realization sitting at my desk at work (again,) and then almost immediately, it was reaffirmed for me.
For the past year, I've had a book sitting on my shelf called Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously. I bought it very ambitiously and then watched it collect dust on my shelf until the other day when I decided for some reason to take it to work to read on my lunch break.
I had gotten no more than a few pages in when I read the words: "One never knows whether one will be able to make it or not. It is gambling, but only the gamblers know what life is."
I have no idea what to think when things like this happen, but it's got to mean something right? The book isn't even about the music industry, but it definitely applies. I recommend it highly.
So I've found my gamble and I'm going to stick with it. No more lotto tickets for me. But at least it was only $2. And I got a song out of it.
until next time,
hailey

Famous people write blogs/journals to seem more normal. Normal people write blogs/journals to seem more famous. I am somewhere in between I think, but I figured hey, why not give this thing a try?
So it is here that I will record updates, musings and perhaps some randomness for you to read.
I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to comment back as I very much enjoy reading messages from fellow people.
Until next time...
