What started as a high school English project eventually turned into a new part-time hobby and weak attempt to form a band. Matt O'Connor started Guns of August in May 2006 to pursue his own odd musical visions. After all of his previous bands fell apart, Matt decided to start this one on his own. After leaving his bass playing position in pop punk band, Mile 23, Matt moved on, convinced he would find the perfect blend of Hair Metal, Folk Rock and any Zakk Wylde-type pinch harmonic inspired craziness. Although because Matt's musical taste is so eclectic, pinpointing a genre for his band would be impossible. He is often seen listening to Slayer, and in the same day, satisfying his unhealthy obsession with Bob Dylan. The result was Guns of August, known for its outrageous cover songs, over usage of the minor pentatonic scale, and the ability to add versatility to metal inspired rock without sounding cheesy. To some, the band may appear to be stuck in the 80s, trying to resurrect a genre that's been dead for 20 years, but you just wait and see!
