November 29, 2006:
I decided that I liked the name too much to give it up. So GKC is still a living, breathing thing of beauty...just in a different form. I'm still doing the NOSTRUM gig, and I've even been spotting around with some other bands.
The new members of GKC are Rick P., Pat D., Colin C. and myself, Raymond. I will be posting new material between now and Xmas. The new songs will include vocals by Colin who hovers somewhere between Harry Connick Jr. and a young Tom Waits. I'll be deleting all the old stuff to appease the former members who object to not having the proper recognition given to them. I have to agree...fair is fair. So I've disabled the download function. Anyone who'd like a free copy of any song(s) can e-mail me at dagoredmusic@mindspring.com. I'll be happy to accomodate. Keep an ear out for the new stuff. Happy holidays.
Raymond
July 31, 2006:
The idea of trying to capture lightning in a bottle a second time is an exciting dream, but a terrible waste of time and resources. We (that is, Mitch, Pierre, Kevin and myself) played what amounted to a "paid rehearsal" at the Daiquiris'n'Creams on Friday night. For 3 hours, we went through the motions of a band, but we were essentially 4 guys who don't play well together pretending to enjoy playing together. A young lady asked Mitch for a request and he points to me and says, "Ask the old man." To which I responded, "You don't want to go back to Baton Rouge and tell your friends and 'old man' kicked your ass, do you?!?!" The girl asked for something by All American Rejects, and I politely told her we weren't VH1, to which Mitch responded, "See...I told you!"
Why would we torture ourselves like this? We were keeping a promise to a friend who's the manager of the bar. It was what it was, a favor for a friend...and the last time we will ever play together.
I'm going to leave the site up through August "as it is." Hopefully, the new music will be mixed down by the end of summer. The name of the band will be "retired", but I don't know when.
Thanks to everyone who's supported the band and the website. Don't go too far, "we'll" be back at some point, doing what we love to do. Stay frosty!
Peace,
Ray

It's been a while...
So much has happened. The "instrumental version" of the band is no more. But R.E.H. is staying aboard as mixing engineer. I've hooked up with a new guitar player and bass player. They want to play Brit pop/retro punk/new wave, which was my original concept for GKC. We're scheduled to have a rehearsal the first Friday after the 4th, so we'll see how it goes. We'll be doing some covers, but we mainly want to do original compositions. In fact, we may convert a couple of the instrumental GKC songs to include lyrics. That would be fine, since we won't have to come up with a melody to fit the words.
Hopefully, I'll be updating more often, but...we'll see.
Peace,
Ray

I trust everyone had a pleasant weekend. Things are changing rapidly. It's the season of renewal. More great music is on the way. Please stop by often and check us out.
