="We stopped genre-straddling," muses Paul Mayer, lead singer of Grand:pm a Toronto based synth-rock outfit comprised of four slickly dressed small-town boys whose coming-of-age included intense classical training, punk rock mini-tours and finally a brief stint in the Toronto jazz scene.
"We were too diverse," Paul continues, "we spread ourselves too thin. We write good, tight pop songs with smart choruses. We figured why not make it our focus?"
It seems to have been a wise choice.
After spending six months honing their craft, building a steady following and documenting the results, the band, which also includes guitarist Paul Hicken, bassist Dustin Wood, and drummer Jeff Moore, re-emerged in July of 2005. Packing Sneaky Dees to beyond capacity, the band proceeded to rile their fans to a frenzied state, resulting in dancing that brought about fears from patrons in the restaurant below that ceiling above them might collapse.
The band has continued their upward climb from that point, receiving critical acclaim for their EP Red/black, with accolades that describe their songs as single-worthy and irresistibly danceable to even the most cynical of indie scenesters. Their live show awarded them a spot as a finalist in Indie Week 2005, and caused the Edge 102.1 studios to open their doors and allow the crowd to spill out onto the street for their Steamwhistle Indie Club performance.
Now operating under Cerberus Artist Management with industry vet Brian Hetherman as their manager, Paul Mayer warns of the days to come. "We've incorporated violins, hip-hop and even the Ghostbusters into our live shows. If you have it, well take it, and make it pop music. Dont be alarmed."

And we're stoked to tell everyone that Neil Coxworth is officially part of grand pm. As a result, the band is now 26% louder, 39.3% cooler, and capable of making threats that include the phrase "the guy with the tattoo sleeves".
Here's 3 fun facts about Neil that everyone probably needs to know.
1. Neil wasn't born - he was crafted by engineers at Apple as one of the early prototypes of the iPod, capable of holding 36 tightly constructed pop songs, 8 Pantera covers and, oddly enough, "Mistake" by Serial Joe.
2. Neil doesn't do alligator wrestling - alligators do Neil wrestling.
3. Neil was the 6th "Planeteer" from "Captain Planet", scrapped because all "good" powers had been taken (earth, wind, water, fire and heart). Possible choices for the 6th power: "Alcohol!"; "Dump Truck!"; "Asbestos!"; "Suave!"; "Patience!".
Seriously now - Neil's a killer guitarist, a great performer and an awesome dude. You now have MORE reasons to come see grand pm live.

Official press release regarding the signing of grand:pm...
Here's the official press release regarding grand:pm being signed to Curve music:
Shortly after midnight on April 28th, Grand:pm joined the Curve music family. As the newest addition to strong group of label mates which include Wide Mouth Mason, Holly McNarland and Turn Off the Stars, Grand:pm is excited about things to come. "This is a huge step in the process of realizing all the ambitions we've had for this band," says bassist Dustin Wood, "Curve is a label which shares a lot of the same values that we do - integrity, passion and dedication. We're very excited to move forward together."
Curve is a Canadian-owned independant label based out of Toronto, and is nationally distributed through Universal Music Canada. Grand:pm has recently started work on their album with producer Ziad "Zee" Al-Hillal (Simple Plan, Weakerthans, Thousand Foot Krutch) - and say that work on the album is going unbelievably well.
"I can't wait to get this record into people's hands," stated drummer Jeff Moore, "This is the album weve basically spent our entire lives writing and we want people to enjoy it from start to finish."
Thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far - we really couldn't do this without everyone who comes out to shows, buys cds and sings along at our shows!

Hey! You rock - yes, you! Someone posted this in our forums, and it's pretty funny. Read it, and then come to a show or two and try and figure out if they're true or not. I'm not telling.
Oh - and then come and join the forums. We need more members making more posts!
5 Things you never knew about Grand PM:
1. The band members don't actually like each other. All four never speak, even during practices. The code of silence has only been broken once, when Paul arrived to practice to find Dustin sitting on his amp. An awkward silent wrestle followed, and then Paul shouted "Your choking me" before passing out. They still haven't spoken since.
2.Some members are ex-porn stars. Lead singer Paul Mayer and bassist Dustin Wood both starred (seperately) in porn movies from the "Filling in the Cracks" series. Dustin was in "Filling in the Cracks 5" and Paul was in "Filling in the Cracks 7".
3. The drummer is communist. This is pretty self-explanatory. We all know those red bastards are in the wrong.
4. Some members are already famous. Bassist Dustin Wood is actually Ron Howard, when Ron Howard travelled forwards in time while filming Happy Days. And although it was rumoured that Jeff was Henry Winkler, the sheer impossibility of that idea made it apparent how untrue it was.
5. Paul Hicken doesn't actually play live. During live performances, Paul Hicken's guitar remains unplugged, while an overweight unknown man named Chachi McPhee plays guitar from sidestage.
