GrandEvoluton is one of southern New England's hardest working, original, do-it-yourself bands. Formed in 2001, they are a collection of diverse personalities that make no attempt to hide their rock and alternative influences. With unabashed raw energy and an edgy sound, GrandEvolution is often compared to The Pixies and Nirvana. They continue to evolve and pay their dues by rocking out in the local scene whenever the opportunity arises and are noticeably earning recognition amongst listeners and critics with an authentic, honest sound that is heavily influenced by 90's alt-rock music.
Currently, the members of GrandEvolution are veterans of the local music scene and have made inroads at all the major cities in striking distance of their hometown of Worcester, Mass. At the 2009 TurtleBoy Awards, they took home the award for "Best Indy/Alt Band," and in the same year, co-founder and lead singer Sarah Kollett won the award for "Female Vocalist of the Year" in a readers' poll in Limelight Magazine. She also won "Sexiest Female Musician" for the Pulse Magazine Awards show earlier this year.
In 2006, GrandEvolution released their debut album "If You Only Knew" which received airplay nationwide on college radio, landing GrandEvolution on the CMJ charts. With the release of this recording, they started playing numerous shows throughout the northeast, sharing the stage with artists like Kay Hanley of Letters to Cleo, Vast, Must, The Velmas, The Wandas, and even Soul Asylum. To date, they have logged over 400 shows.
"All We Have Is Now", GrandEvolution's second full-length album, hit the streets in April 2008. From start to finish, the 14-song self-produced recording is loaded with catchy, melodic, guitar driven rock tunes that showcase Kollett's songwriting ability, backed by a tight band.
For most of 2009, GrandEvolution was in the studio working on their third recording, "The Recovery". This album explores heartbreak and disappointment, and seems to envelope the listener in a quagmire of angry sludge. The songs are often touching and heartfelt, but GrandEvolution doesn't let that get in the way of the rock. While pounding away at the groove, the tunes move through the concepts of the album while maintaining an emotional high that doesn't let up. The disillusionment expressed by Kollett is easy to identify with. The album features Kollett on guitars and vocals, Scott Kenyon on drums, Jeremy Carnrike on guitar and harmonies, and Zachary Keene on bass. "The Recovery" features guest musical performances from Drew Townson, Chris Thomas, Sean Mclaughlin, Jamie Rogan, Jacob Bunton and Stefano Trafecante.
GrandEvolution manages to capture an audience while simultaneously defining a generation. Check out "The Recovery" and help get the word out about GrandEvolution.
