No matter where you are, dig deep enough and you can end up on whatever side of the world you want…which is why Boulder, CO remains the home of Goodnight Republic.
It’s a little bit synthetic how things are created, by expectations of what it should and shouldn’t be. Today’s music is just as plastic as any action figure that can be posed and painted into what the consumer wants. The consumer has become the creator. A change must be made and this is our purpose, to make music that we love and produce our own creation.
The name Goodnight Republic comes from this notion that today’s society needs to be saved from its dry everydayness, and that the people of the world need to redefine what is right and wrong. Now, there is a dire need for change: change the music we hear from the generic to the innovative and stop lying down on the cinders and splinters of the world for our leaders to walk on our backs to pursue their own agendas.
Since January of 2003, Dan and Wael have been working at finding the right chemical and musical fusion of talent from the punk, indie, classic rock and metal scenes. They spent time and effort going through drummers and several supporting guitarists, until September of 2003 when they found drummer Ben Anderson and the summer of 05 when they found Louis to play guitar. To say that anyone resembles Keith Moon of The Who is like saying that someone can run through a brick wall, but Ben’s drum riffs and fills are reminiscent of a bygone power that will send listeners backpedaling through every wall in the venue. As if amidst a swarm of fruit flies Ben takes each one out of the sky with precise, frenzied swings of rage and rhythm that drive through the heads of those looking on, leaving everyone in awe , amidst could falling fruit flies.
All the sheep of the world often need shearing as their wool gets too long. This is Daniel’s field of expertise…don’t worry, the explanation is near. The aforementioned sheep are a metaphor for how he has and continues to affect the world. In the pinnacle of summer heat, our hypothetical sheep grazes in a field made for waiting. Here is where the sheep wait to be sheared by the razor and relieved of their winter coats grown to protect them from the bitter winds and cold from the north. The wool is pop cultures expectations that have grown on the backs of the population, that makes them sweat in the heat and makes them suffer from the lack of substance and musicianship in today’s music. Dan’s bass patterns and structures span from uncomplicated four bladed straight razor strokes, to elaborate and intricate razor strokes that bring the sheep’s coat down to the perfect length where the sheep are still warm but can feel the refreshing breeze of uniquely composed harmony and melody.
Wael, the architect/songsmith of the band can create everything from brightly colored reflections to gigantic steel towers with his irresistible guitar work, heartfelt vocals and contagious, high energy stage presence. Taking the burden of fronting a three piece head on, Wael delivers passionate vocals and powerful riffs while shredding the stage with his energy. As the cold eyes of the crowd bore into him, Wael returns their gazes with strokes of emotion, shaping and building a musical experience that will not soon be forgotten.
In October of 2004, the trio of Goodnight Republic went into 8 Houses Down Recording Studios in Denver Colorado for a second time to start work on their second [EP] which bears the name “It’s a Little Bit Synthetic”. The result is a four-song opus devoid of musical and creative restraint. Hearts and souls were poured and dried until the project took on life of its own. “even though this is the best we’ve ever done we can still do so much more.” Rock and roll.

Check out our friends THE BLACKOUT PACT who are just finishing up their new record with Geoff Rickly of Thursday. Congrats guys.

EP recorded at 8 Houses Down Studios in Denver, CO by Matt "you touch my tra la la" VanLeuven and Jeff "my ding ding dong" Merkle. Produced by Matt VanLeuven and Goodnight Republic.
