Free Love is a Nine-piece alt-pop act from Cambridge, UK. Their sound straddles Punk/ Folk/ Metal/ World/ Acoustic fronted by seamlessly interwoven female and male vocals. The nine piece formed in early 2005 by an organic process of musical magnetism: at the centre, vocalist Rachael, with guitarist and fellow vocalist Jamie Freeman, relinquished their respective bands and became the centripetal force that pulled in Eoin (piano/banjo), Chemise (guitar), Matt (bass), Oli (drums), Dan (violin), Pete (Cello/didjeridoo) and Joel (sitar). Imagine a new-age goddess a la Patti Smith - Tori Amos, and a 6'2 blonde-dreadlocked genius with the combined musical talents of Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake. Add the backing of a 7-piece band / orchestra with instrumentation from Indianate Sitar to metal drop-bass. In mood they vary from crash-bang drum-trance and chugging dance, through sex-bombastic lounge-act, to crow-calling cello-song melancholia, with influences from The Mars Volta to Tool via WOMAD. Nothing like them has ever been seen - or heard - before.
