About Folk On...

Folk On Records is not a record company in the traditional sense. It is not a company designed to make money, but it is a small, but growing community of songwriters and performers who work together to take on the challenges of getting our music heard. The Folk On collective sees music in its original form, as a way of communication. To us, "folk" is not a specific and exclusive genre, but refers to people, folks, and their connection to music. We share information about performance opportunities, recording, copyright, and even writing so that we can all grow in our musical capabilities. Folk On!

Folk On the Air...
WMFO 91.5 FM Radio Songwriters' Showcase

As I have jumped deeper into the folk music scene in Boston and Portland, I found that there are tons of incredible musicians who are unsigned and uneheard. In 2005 I started Folk On Records "On the Air" as a way to play these writer's work on the air right next to the works of their "discovered" and established counterparts. In addition to playing recordings by these artists from the Greater Boston area, I now feature live guest performances on the show.

Our past performances include Danielle Miraglia, Dan Gonzalez, Chris Elliott, Lisa Austin, Jaded Mandolin, Ezra Furman, Justine McDonald of Talaria, Jahn Sood, Mary Ukelady, Dan Cloutier, Geoff Brown, Mark Whittaker, Andrew Rusli, The Mule, Elijah Wyman.

Upcoming performances include: Emilia Dahlin, Hugh McGowan, Roy Davis, Caleb Aronson, Steven Bacon, John Elliott and more!

FALL 2006 booking WMFO

Ladies and Gentlemen,

You are reciving this email either because you have performed on my show before or because you contacted me about performing on the show, if I like your music and would like to have you come in and rock the WMFO studio, or if I think you may be interested for any other reason. Please pass the word on to anyone who you think would like to be part of the WMFO experience.

The live airing of Folk On Records' "On the Air" will now take place:
WEDNESDAYS from 10am-noon.
From now to the end of December.

Here's how booking is going to work this year....

All performers must submit a CD and any bio and press material that you can round up 2 weeks before the show so that I can have a good idea of you music and general being in advance and so that I can let listeners know that you are coming. I may also send you a few questions ahead of time to get the thoughts going and beef up the interviews.

Your CD and a copy of your live performance will then remain in the show's archive for radio play on later shows.

Other than that, interviews and live performances will be like they were in the past. I want to give the listening community a chance to get to know you, your music and your artistic philosophy so that they get a full understanding of what they are hearing. I believe that music is first and foremost a form of communication, so I hope this can be an outlet for you to reach a few more people.

WFMO is heard...

...in Medford, Cambridge, Somerville and Arlington at 91.5 FM, but is also available for listeners worldwide at www.wmfo.org in live stream and can be accessed for one week after the show. While some listeners are regular, the impact of your performance also relies hugely on your ability to get your own fans from everywhere to listen.
