(15/6/06 - Chris) I think some people may be wondering how and when FHD became a duette. Actually, in the (very near!) future we will be expanding to a trio when I move from lead vocals to backups. So what happened to the whole solo project? I've always written FHD's melodies and arrangements in my own time, but given Leigh Alexander's amazing talents as a guitarist / songwriter, it seems pretty much pointless for me to do the rest with anybody else now! We have co-written 4 killer new songs over the past couple of months. Leigh's efforts have given much of the new material a harder edge, and whilst it still remains beautifully melodic, the new songs are far more passionate and emotive and catchy. It has so-far proven the perfect sum of both our styles.
At this stage we're unsure whether we will employ session musos to fill-out the line-up, or if we will simply remain an acoustic duo/trio live. Either way, in the studio, Five Hour Drive is unstoppable. We have a 3-song demo already on the way. (Previously unreleased tracks will feature as a B-side on the new disk - including re-recorded versions of So Sick and Sniper Shots).
A demo-take of the chorus of our first track together 'My Dark Destiny' can be found on the home page.
(16/1/06) Happy New Years! For anybody who hasn't already heard - Chris is taking 2006 to focus on his solo efforts. His new material will be released on the band's independant label Band Geek. Some of the new material will be co-written with up-and-coming artists Leigh Alexander (The Red Carpet), Daniel Ring (Don't Ask Us) and Matt Aquilina amongst others. Chris has described his evolved style as "far more natural, organic, more energetic, harder, more emotive, still just as catchy." The new set will also feature acoustic and piano-driven pieces. "A lot of people don't know that I play piano, but in fact I write almost everything at the keyboard - I've been doing it 15 years!" By all indications, it looks as though the bold move could pay off for fans of Five Hour Drive who will enjoy more hook-filled ear-candy, but also more variety in Chris' songwriting as he refines a side to his music that fewer have heard.
Five Hour Drive will become an alias for Chris' solo enterprise.
Anyone interested in co-writing with Chris can forward their demos to fivehourdrive@hotmail.com. (Experience is a must-have, please).
The band would like to promise fans that the EP will still be released in the near future, pending the re-recording of some drum tracks.
