FINE CHINA

Pop / Indie

Sadly, Fine China is no more. After almost a decade of making great pop songs, the band decided it was time to move on. Luckily, lead singer and songwriter, Rob Withem has teamed up with Joy Electric's Ronnie Martin, and they will be releaseing a full length record in 2007 as The Foxglove Hunt. Withem has finished writing all the song for the upcoming release and Martin has begun production. The still untitled album will be mixed by Bob Hoag, who produced The Jaws of Life. The nearly religious synth ethic of Martin, the obsessive analog ethic of Hoag and the consistent pop sensibilty of Withem is sure to be an amazing collaboration. Look for the first demo song on their MySpace and PureVolume page in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we thought it would be nice to give you some other music to listen to. We've posted the entire The Jaws of Life record here on the Purevolume page. In addition, about half the songs are downloadable as well. If you've never heard it, It's a good taste of Withem's undeniable songwriting talent. Enjoy!

The Jaws of Life
FineChina

2005 was an interesting year for Fine China. After a three year silence, they released their third full-length record "The Jaws of Life" (TJOL) to the excitement of many fans and the praise of many critics. It was a continuation in their journey to a more guitar-driven sound. While 2002's "You Make Me Hate Music" was the beginning of this new direction, TJOL completed their sonic shift with a sound that is distinctly Fine China. Thanks to the pristine production from Bob Hoag, Fine China was able to take their perfectly crafted pop songs and give them a subtle, but unique sound unlike anything they had recorded before.

Consequently, "The Jaws of Life" was met with much success, including charting as high as #65 on CMJ college charts, recieving considerable airplay on XM Radio's College Music station XMU (along with being included on their top records list for 2005), garnering many positive reviews from music critics at Music (for Robots), Indie Workshop, Pop Matters, and Transform Online, and sharing the stage with live acts such as Headphones, Crystal Skulls, Dios Malos, Joy Electric and Architecture in Helsinki. Also, their song "My Worst Nightmare" was featured in December on FOX's realistic teen drama, The OC.

Featured on this page is a downloadable remix of the Fine China song "Prosecute, Electrocute" by Joy Electric. All the other songs on this page are from "The Jaws of Life". The album can be purchased from their website or iTunes. Use the links below to check them out.
