Khon Kaen-the Gate way to Isaan

blog post
Many Thailand people have been aware of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, but few venture to the northeast and head for the location know as Isaan. This can be in the north-east and comprised of Korat, Khon Kaen, Udorn Thani and the others.

This is mainly a rural area with several rice farms. It's also the home of numerous expatriates who have settled down using their Thai girl and have made this their new home.

I just got to see this city briefly and was in Korat twice all through exercise Cobra Gold. Working 12 16 hour day didnt allow much time for sightseeing. But, I did observe that the price of living was a lot less than the people and the larger tourist towns were a heck of a lot friendlier.

I visited Khon Kaen for the first-time in 2007 to see a girl that I met online. I instantly fell in love with the girl and also with the city of Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen is a 5-5 minute flight from Bangkok departing from the old international airport Don Muang. The airport in Khon Kaen only has two departure gates and is very little.

Town is a nice mixture of old and new. We'd head out for lunch or dinner and sit-in little bungalows across the sea or one of the waters and eat in pure happiness. 3 or 4 dishes of some water, a few beers and exemplary food and the statement could be about $10 - $15.

On the flip-side, there is also KFC, Pizza Company and other junk food places. American influence at its worst.

Shopping again is a mixture of old and new. You can travel to the food market or the night market or head to the Fairy mall or the electronics mall. From cheap T-shirts to present films o-n DVD to bootleg application, Khon Kaen has it all.

I stayed at a small hotel called Cactus Resort. It was in town but not in the heart. It'd simply take us about 5 minutes to go to the mall or out to dinner. The buying price of the space was about $16 per night. The space was a decent size with satellite TV, free Internet, hot and cold running water with a bath, and big bed and ice box. Needless to say, the area was air conditioned. The team was pleasant and helped me create my computer to gain access to the Internet using their IP-ADDRESS. The maid even found that I was drinking more than my allotted 2 free bottles of water and increased my free water to four bottles.

The resort didnt have a restaurant, but there is one right nearby. This was not problem for me as my girl would cook my break fast at her house and take it to me and pick me up some food for lunch. We'd then head out each night for supper and drinks.

Khon Kaen is just a very comfortable and affordable place to call home. I want to retire there and is likely to be seeking to get a house on my next visit. I discovered Sometimes Saving Money Just Isn’t Worth It and Rich People Know It by searching webpages.

The next time you intend a visit to Thailand, have a side trip to the northeast and knowledge all that Isaan is offering..
