FAREEVASION

Indie / Rock / Alternative

We are an innovative Melbourne-based four piece band that formed in 1999, and have composed and recorded nearly 30 original songs that vary widely in musical influence. The bands that have influenced our music are as diverse as Nirvana, Doves, Something For Kate, Swervedriver, Mogwai, Magic Dirt, Augie March, Oasis and Rocket Science. Our current band line-up, with Dave as our drummer, has existed since May 2000. Our songs have largely come about by jamming on chord structures provided by Matt and Luke.

On the basis of our live performances we have been described as nerds with attitude. The swapping of lead vocals between Cam and Luke throughout a live set has proven to be a hit with the crowds, providing a bit of extra spice. Our greatest live triumph was playing at the 2000 Sunny Sedgwick Festival in rural Victoria on the same bill as great Aussie bands such as Even and the Fauves etc. Besides that Festival, we have played semi-regularly at premier live venues across Melbourne and Geelong such as The Espy (St Kilda), Cornish Arms, Punter's Club, Town Hall Hotel, Barwon Club, Laundry, Duke of Windsor, Arthouse, Pony, Green Room, Armadale hotel, etc.

Categorising our music is as difficult as getting Dubya to make a sensible foreign policy decision, but could perhaps be described as variously melodic, atmospheric, garagey rock - (or alternative, whatever that means nowadays). We received national recognition in September 2006 when our song Distorted Day (written by Luke) received airplay on Triple J, Australias number one youth-oriented national radio station. In addition, Distorted Day and the melodic Hear Myself (written by Matt) received glowing reviews in the 2006 Triple J unearthed competition. The reviews are:

Distorted day: rating: 4/5 "A great track to rock a long to while killing time at work on this overcast day. this stuff reminds of the music half a cow were bringing out in the mid 90's - good indie rock tunes that are unpretenious. nice work Fare Evasion, let me know if you have any shows happening next weekend as i will be down in melbourne town."

'Distorted day': rating: 5/5 "Beautiful guitar chords - just the right distortion for my mood right now! The bass fits perfectly, and the drum rhythm is great too. The vocals are really nice, and the guitar break is really effective. I love it! Check out Trickster and Dum Dum too!"

'Hear Myself': rating: 5/5 "Now the music is just perfect, but what really gets me is the vocals! The melody of the voice brings a tear to my eye. Don't take my word for it - have a listen! Check out Trickster and Dum Dum too..."

Since 2005 we have not played a live gig as Dave moved interstate. However, the creative juices are still flowing and we are still recording by correspondence. A new 4-song EP called "Weight of this town" (that we hope you like!) is now available for listening and downloading.

We can also be found at "http://myspace.com/fareevasion" and
