Music history tells us that trends run in cycles. It also tells us that every so often a person or band comes along that pushes the envelope. Chances are taken, rules are broken and rock music moves on to appeal to and excite a whole new generation. It has constantly reinvented itself while never forgetting where it came from. Just when you think its going to die againit comes back stronger and more powerful than ever.
For years, grunge, rap-rock and all of their offshoots have dominated rock music. What was once fresh and new is now tired and stagnant. The envelope isnt being pushed anymoreits been sealedsealed by conventionalism. Bands are flavor of the week, the dayhell, even the damn minute! Minds become numb from hearing band after band that all sound the same. EVOLOCITY is about to change all of that. Not here to seal or merely pushbut to rip the envelope wide open. As Jazz says, We want to put our stamp on music history. When were long gone we want people to know that weve been there.
Aaron and Jazz laid the groundwork for EVOLOCITY in Vermont during the late 1990's. After putting out two full length albums and playing in markets all over the Northeast as the band SPILL they decided a change was needed. That change was made with a move to Phoenix, Arizona in late 1999. Once there, Melon joined in early 2000 after moving from Michigan; Raydn 1, an Arizona native, was added in the summer of 2002 and Cor(e) completed the band when he joined in January of 2004. As Cor(e) states, the band gained three members who vastly increased its breadth of style, but also gave the sound more of an edge.
Each member has brought in their own individual style and influences ranging from Led Zeppelin, to the Beatles, Kings X, Faith No More and Primus to blend together and create something completely new. As Cor(e) puts it, "each of us is a product of our influences, but our influences and musical tastes differ so greatly, within ourselves and between each other, that no single one is going to dominate.
Jazz adds, You can hear strokes of color from our influences but in the endits an entirely new sound.
It is music that challenges and stimulates your mind. It is music that moves you with melody but can also bowl you over with aggression and shear force. It is music that has staying power written all over it in a world littered with one hit wonders. Bottom lineit is music that stays with you. You dont forget it the moment the song changes on the radio. You crave more. As Raydn 1 puts it, EVOLOCITY music isorganized confusion. You wonderhow is this part going with that part and ending up sounding so good?
Cory adds, "were far more diverse than conventional rock, while greatly appealing to those whos tastes lie within it.
EVOLOCITY formed in Phoenix with a vision. Hard work and great music are making that vision come to pass. With appearances at both the South Park and Midpoint Music Festivals, being voted to the semi-final round of the National Zippo Hot Tour Competition and having their music added to over 200 college radio stations in 2005...only greater things can be expected from this band in 2006. There is no grand statement they are trying to makethat changes from song to song. Overall, as Aaron says, wed just like to bring back good song writing and musicianship. With EVOLOCITY youre getting that and much moreyoure getting a band that will hook you in and keep you for years to come.
