ESTRUS

Hardcore / Metalcore / Alternative

The origins of Estrus date back many years when Staunton, IL friends Brandon Texier, Adam Ross and Josh Jones took up the habit to play music as a three-piece band in the year 1998. From there, line-up changes made their way in as bassist Erik Lagerlf joined the band in early 2004, replacing Ross. Percussionist Dustin Krefft soon then became the band's drummer, in turn giving the sound of Estrus a new wave. December 2004 saw Adam Ross returning to the band and becoming lead vocals, making Estrus' sound even more evolved with metal and hardcore elements. The group then attracted a small regional following with their newest demo projects and live performances. Estrus took an unexpected turn in April 2005 when former Omelas vocalist Dustin Thacker became the fifth member of the group taking on vocal and keyboard duties. The sound of Estrus was finally shaping to a mature style that they could settle with. After several more big shows (even serving as an opening act for bands such as 3 (Metal Blade Records), I Am The Avalanche (Drive-Thru Records), and Yakuza (Prosthetic Records)), Estrus was now catching the eyes and ears throughout the stretched region of central Illinois.

Estrus would make the decision in mid-2006 to release vocalist Adam Ross, in turn giving Thacker the duties as the sole front man. Now with the dead-set motivation to take Estrus to the next level, the band will be performing all over the Mid-West to promote their summer 2006 EP release "Now Comes the Mystery". With a steadily increasing regional fan base, the four-piece now plans to share their sound of music to new faces at new venues all over, and one day find the ultimate prize for which they seek. The band's passion to make music their life is uncanny.

"I feel that this project will do very well with all the effort we are putting into it. I always tell myself that I cannot wait to see what is in store next for Estrus," says Thacker.

The sound of Estrus consists of various elements of hardcore/metal influences along with mind-catching melodic vocals. You can feel the metal drive shine through on the band's newest demo track "The Partisans Plea". Swinging melody along with brutal force is applied in "So It Ends", which has quickly become a fan-favorite. Estrus has many influences that give them fuel for their creative composure. Killswitch Engage, Calico System, Atreyu and Bleed the Dream can all be accounted for as musical groups who have motivated Estrus to create their own form of art; while the bands interest in underground black and death metal further enhances their creative output.

"Weve never claimed to sound like anyone." says Lagerlf. "We blend the types of music that we love into something that pleases us on every level. Not much more can be added to that".
